Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out. These checks are the approach's score.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,714 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 435 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Everitt Airport in Parker, Colorado, the Black Square Caravan Professional Cargo Pod N95EJ initiated its takeoff roll on runway 23. The aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 62 kt, achieving a takeoff distance of 414 meters, which accounted for 51% of the available runway length. Local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 10 °C, with a wind speed of 15 kt blowing from 175°, resulting in a crosswind component of 13 kt and a headwind component of 6 kt.
Following a brief enroute level cruise phase, the aircraft began its initial climb, ascending from 6,474 ft to 10,013 ft in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nm. The climb phase was followed by a series of level cruise segments, with the aircraft maintaining a steady altitude and airspeed as it traversed the Colorado and Wyoming skies. Notably, the aircraft's cruise altitude and airspeed remained consistent throughout the flight, with the exception of a brief descent phase from 10,006 ft to 9,306 ft, which was initiated 6 miles north of Hay Fever Farm Airport. The aircraft's fuel consumption was moderate, with a total fuel usage of 154 kg.
As the aircraft approached its destination, Cheyenne Regional Jerry Olson Field, it began its final approach to runway 13 from the north-west. The aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 73 kt, with a touchdown distance of 434 meters. The touchdown rate was good, at -169 fpm, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline. Following a smooth rollout, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, concluding its flight with a total distance of 151 nm and a flight time of 62 minutes.
The aircraft, Black Square Caravan Professional Cargo Pod N95EJ, successfully completed a landing on runway 13 at KCYS Cheyenne Regional Jerry Olson Field. The approach from the north west, heading 139.0° at 4 nm and 845 ft above ground level, was characterized by good quality, with the pilot maintaining a stable and controlled descent. The threshold height was satisfactory, and the aircraft touched down at a speed of 73 kt, which was a little above the target speed.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's descent rate was good at -169 fpm, and the touchdown distance was 434 m, which was within acceptable limits. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.1 m from the centreline. The pilot managed to maintain control and execute a smooth rollout, with the aircraft coming to a stop at a total distance of 712 m, which represented 52% of the runway length. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 8 °C and a 10 kt headwind, did not significantly impact the landing.
The overall performance of the pilot was satisfactory, with a score of 96.5%. The threshold speed was well above the target at 81 kt, which may have contributed to the slightly fast touchdown speed. Nevertheless, the pilot demonstrated good control and handling skills throughout the approach, touchdown, and rollout phases. The runway rollout alignment was particularly impressive, with the aircraft remaining very close to the centreline.
