Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 2,064 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,064 m of the 3,400 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,227 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in the Boeing 737-700 started at SKCL Alfonso Bonilla Aragon International Airport in Cali, Colombia. The taxi from the parking to the runway was quick, taking only 3 minutes and covering less than 1 nm. The departure roll was from runway 02, with a takeoff distance of 1,194 m (40% of the runway) and a liftoff speed of 137 knots. The local weather at the time of departure was 26 °C, with a light wind of 2 knots coming from 119 °, resulting in minimal crosswind and tailwind conditions.
During the enroute climb, the aircraft ascended from 4,314 ft above sea level to 38,461 ft, covering a distance of 219 nm in 33 minutes. The climb was smooth and efficient, with no reported issues. Once the aircraft reached its cruising altitude, it maintained level flight for 174 minutes, covering 1,137 nm over the course of the journey.
The descent phase began 45 miles north of Tiquipaya, Bolivia, where the aircraft descended from 39,251 ft to 10,257 ft in just 7 minutes, covering a distance of 47 nm. The descent was executed without any complications, bringing the aircraft safely towards its destination.
The final approach to runway 14 at SLCB Jorge Wilsterman International Airport was from the northwest, with the aircraft heading at 135.0 ° at 4 nm and 1,828 ft above ground level. The landing on runway 14 was successful, although the threshold speed was slightly high at 167 knots. The touchdown point was slightly beyond the designated zone, but the touchdown speed of 140 knots and rate of descent at -232 ft/min were within acceptable limits. The landing distance was 1,998 m, covering 59% of the runway, with a smooth rollout alignment.
After touching down, the aircraft taxied back to the parking area, which was located nearby, in less than a minute. The total flight distance covered was 1,410 nm over a duration of 199 minutes. The aircraft consumed 7,790 kg of fuel during the flight, maintaining operational efficiency throughout the journey.
Overall, the flight in the Boeing 737-700 was executed safely and efficiently, with all phases of the flight – from taxiing to landing – completed without any major incidents or deviations from standard operating procedures.
