Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
At the 500 ft gate: speed 18 kt FAST on the reference speed of 138 kt.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,091 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,091 m of the 3,893 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 801 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from the UK, the Airbus A320 initiated its enroute climb from a point 1 mile south east of Horley, Surrey, England, at an altitude of 1,212 ft above sea level. The aircraft successfully climbed to a cruising altitude of 32,379 ft, a vertical gain of 31,168 ft, in just 18 minutes, covering a distance of 108 nautical miles. This marked the beginning of the enroute level cruise phase, which started 1 mile west of Lindebeuf, Normandie, France, and lasted for 25 minutes, with the aircraft covering a further 194 nautical miles.
As the flight progressed, the enroute descent phase commenced 3 miles north of Autreville-sur-la-Renne, Grand Est, France, with the aircraft descending from 32,122 ft to 3,969 ft in 18 minutes, covering 111 nautical miles. A brief enroute level cruise phase followed, lasting just 3 minutes, as the aircraft flew overhead Ungersheim, Grand Est, France, covering a short distance of 9 nautical miles. The final descent phase began overhead Rixheim, Grand Est, France, with the aircraft descending from 3,698 ft to 2,157 ft in just 2 minutes, covering 5 nautical miles.
The Airbus A320 then commenced its final approach to runway 15 at LFSB EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, flying from the north west at a heading of 155.0°, 4 nautical miles from the runway and at an altitude of 1,261 ft above ground level. The aircraft landed on the 2,783 m runway, with the touchdown point located 397 m beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was slightly fast at 144 kt, and the touchdown rate was hard at -442 fpm. The aircraft's runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly off-centre. Following a taxiing period of 5 minutes, the aircraft arrived at the parking area, having covered a total distance of 436 nautical miles and consuming 3,253 kg of fuel.
The final approach to runway 15 at LFSB EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg from the north west was initiated at 4 nm and 1,261 ft above ground level, heading 155.0°. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a threshold height of 58 ft above ground level, slightly above the target. The threshold speed of 157 kt was well above the target, indicating a high level of pilot control.
The aircraft touched down 397 m beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 144 kt, which was fast. The touchdown rate was hard at -442 fpm, indicating a high deceleration rate. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.2 m from the centreline. The local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 16 °C and a wind of 8 kt at 110°, resulting in a 6 kt crosswind and a 6 kt headwind.
The total landing distance was 2,022 m, which accounted for 73% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 14.9 m from the centreline. Overall, the landing performance was satisfactory, with a score of 84.2%. While there were some deviations from the target, the pilots demonstrated good control and management of the aircraft during the approach and landing phases.
