Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,858 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,858 m of the 3,894 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 631 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, Vueling EC-MGZ, then departed from runway 13 at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (LEMG). The takeoff distance was 1,774 meters, which accounted for 55% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 159 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 17°C, with a wind speed of 8 knots at 169°. The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the headwind component was 6 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile south east of LEMG, rising from an altitude of 1,055 feet above sea level to 35,081 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,026 feet in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 150 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 5 miles south east of El Bodon Heliport (LEBD) and lasted for 73 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 627 nautical miles. The enroute descent began 47 miles south west of Santa Marinella, Italy, and lasted for 28 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 34,987 feet above sea level to 1,311 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,676 feet. The descent covered a distance of 58 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 16L at Rome–Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (LIRF) was made from the north, heading 163.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,292 feet above ground level. The landing was executed on runway 16L, which had a length of 3,894 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 139 knots. The touchdown point was 217 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 132 knots, which was considered good. The touchdown rate was also good at -165 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.0 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 12°C, with a wind speed of 7 knots at 51°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the tailwind component was 3 knots. The total landing distance was 1,779 meters, which accounted for 46% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile.
In summary, the flight covered a total distance of 845 nautical miles, taking 147 minutes, and used 5,255 kilograms of fuel.
Aircraft Vueling EC-MGZ successfully landed at LIRF Rome–Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport, achieving a high score of 96.4%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the north, heading 163.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,292 feet above ground level (agl).
The pilot executed a smooth final approach, touching down on runway 16L with a good threshold height. The threshold speed was also satisfactory at 139 knots. The touchdown point was located 217 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 132 knots was within acceptable limits, and the touchdown rate of -165 feet per minute (fpm) was also good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were moderate, with a temperature of 12°C and a wind speed of 7 knots from a direction of 51°. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a tailwind of 3 knots. Despite these conditions, the pilot managed to maintain control of the aircraft and execute a safe landing.
The total landing distance of 1,779 meters was 46% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and brought it to a stop in a safe and controlled manner. Overall, the landing was executed well, and the pilot demonstrated good skills and judgment in navigating the aircraft to a safe touchdown.
