Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,285 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 594 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 23L at Auckland International Airport (NZAA). The takeoff distance was 1,685 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 165 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 22°C and a wind speed of 13 knots from a direction of 210°.
The crosswind component was 9 knots, while the headwind component was 10 knots. As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile southwest of NZAA. The climb was from an altitude of 1,010 feet above sea level to 5,970 feet above sea level, an increase of 4,960 feet, in just 4 minutes and covering a distance of 14 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which began 9 miles west of Waiuku and lasted for 7 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 28 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase started 7 miles east of Red Hill and lasted for 5 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 5,493 feet above sea level to 1,307 feet above sea level, a decrease of 4,186 feet. The descent covered a distance of 13 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 23L at NZAA was made from the east, with the aircraft heading 251.0° at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,280 feet above ground level. The landing was made on the runway, which had a length of 3,285 meters. The threshold height at 62 feet above ground level was above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 140 knots.
The touchdown point was 175 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 134 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was excellent at -100 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 20°C and a wind speed of 17 knots from a direction of 210°.
The crosswind component was 11 knots, while the headwind component was 13 knots. The total landing distance was 1,235 meters, which accounted for 38% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 62 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 27 minutes. The aircraft used 1,128 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at Auckland International Airport, achieving a high score of 94.8%. The final approach to runway 23L was conducted from the east, with a heading of 251.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,280 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, with the threshold height being above the target at 62 feet agl. However, the threshold speed was satisfactory at 140 knots, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown point was located 175 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation.
The touchdown speed of 134 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating a well-executed landing. Furthermore, the touchdown rate of -100 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, indicating a smooth and controlled touchdown. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 20°C and wind speeds of 17 knots at 210°. The crosswind component was 11 knots, while the headwind component was 13 knots. These conditions did not appear to have a significant impact on the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,235 meters was 38% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This suggests that the aircraft was able to land smoothly and efficiently, with minimal use of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was executed well, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 94.8%. The pilots demonstrated good control and precision during the final approach, touchdown, and rollout phases, resulting in a safe and efficient landing.
