Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,584 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,584 m of the 3,494 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 609 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Frankfurt Airport, taking approximately 4 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 07C, with the aircraft lifting off at a speed of 150 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 9°C, a wind speed of 7 knots at 150°, with a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 1 knot.
As the aircraft climbed away from Frankfurt Airport, it began its enroute climb, starting approximately 1 mile northeast of the airport. The climb took place from an initial altitude of 1,407 feet above sea level to a maximum altitude of 28,597 feet, an increase of 27,191 feet in just 14 minutes, covering a distance of 81 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, lasting 2 minutes and covering 12 nautical miles, before beginning another climb phase.
This second climb phase started approximately 2 miles north of Schesslitz, Bavaria, and took the aircraft from an altitude of 29,023 feet to 30,641 feet, an increase of 1,618 feet in just 3 minutes, covering a distance of 25 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting overhead Emtmannsberg, Bavaria, and descending from 29,875 feet to 29,009 feet, a decrease of 866 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 13 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, lasting 12 minutes and covering 98 nautical miles, before beginning its descent once again. This final descent phase started approximately 1 mile southwest of Netolice, Czech Republic, and took the aircraft from an altitude of 29,009 feet to 1,984 feet, a decrease of 27,025 feet in 21 minutes, covering a distance of 105 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 11 at Vienna International Airport was made from the west, with the aircraft heading 116.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,363 feet above ground level. The landing took place on a runway length of 3,494 meters, with a good threshold height. The threshold speed was slightly above target at 138 knots, and the touchdown point was 184 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was a little fast at 128 knots, but the touchdown rate was fair at -226 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.1 meters from the centerline, but the runway rollout alignment was very good. The total landing distance was 1,494 meters, or 43% of the runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 6°C, a wind speed of 11 knots at 130°, with a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 10 knots.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 6 minutes to cover 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 342 nautical miles, taking 65 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,888 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at Vienna International Airport (LOWW) with a score of 96.2%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 116.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,363 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 11, which has a length of 3,494 meters.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down slightly beyond the touchdown zone, 184 meters past the designated area. The touchdown speed of 128 knots was slightly above the target speed, indicating a slightly fast touchdown. The touchdown rate of -226 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 5.1 meters.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 6°C and a wind speed of 11 knots from a direction of 130°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 10 knots. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,494 meters was 43% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft was well-controlled during the landing roll. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft scoring 96.2% on its performance.
