Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,434 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 467 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A319, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at London Luton Airport (EGGW). This process took approximately 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 25, with the aircraft lifting off at a speed of 155 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 8°C, with a wind speed of 11 knots blowing from a direction of 190°. The crosswind component was 10 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from Luton, it began its enroute climb, which started approximately 1 mile south east of the airport. The climb took place from an initial altitude of 1,451 feet above sea level to a maximum altitude of 15,451 feet, an increase of 14,000 feet in just 6 minutes. During this time, the aircraft covered a distance of 19 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise phase began approximately 1 mile west of Sherington, Milton Keynes, and lasted for 7 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 46 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, Manchester Airport (EGCC), it began its enroute descent, which started overhead Breedon on the Hill, Leicestershire. The descent took place from a maximum altitude of 15,256 feet to a final altitude of 1,540 feet, a decrease of 13,716 feet in 12 minutes. During this time, the aircraft covered a distance of 46 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 23R at Manchester Airport was made from the north east, with the aircraft heading 231.0° at an altitude of 1,312 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway threshold.
The landing took place on runway 23R, which had a length of 2,434 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 5°C, with a wind speed of 4 knots blowing from a direction of 190°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots. The touchdown point was 47 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 120 knots and a touchdown rate of -340 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 7.0 meters.
The total landing distance was 1,334 meters, which accounted for 55% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, a process that took less than 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 119 nautical miles, with a total flight time of 33 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 1,363 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 successfully landed on runway 23R at Manchester Airport (EGCC) with a score of 94.3%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 231.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,312 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot maintained a good threshold height, which is a critical aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was recorded at 128 knots, which is within the acceptable range. The touchdown point was 47 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. However, the touchdown speed of 120 knots was good, and the touchdown rate of -340 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting a controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 5°C and a wind speed of 4 knots from 190°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was also 3 knots. These conditions did not pose a significant challenge to the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,334 meters was 55% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the post-landing phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the pilot demonstrating good control and adherence to standard operating procedures. However, the slight deviation from the touchdown zone and the misaligned runway touchdown position are areas for improvement.
