Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,137 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 46 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna 140 RA, then departed from runway 34 at T35 Cameron Municipal Airport. The takeoff distance was 185 meters, which accounted for 19% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 34 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 15°C temperature and a 1-knot wind at 270°. The enroute climb started overhead T35 Cameron Municipal Airport, where the aircraft climbed from 739 feet above sea level to 1,195 feet, an increase of 456 feet in 1 minute and covering less than 1 nautical mile.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise, lasting 4 minutes and covering 1 nautical mile, 1 mile north of T35 Cameron Municipal Airport. This was followed by another enroute climb, which started 2 miles northwest of the airport and took the aircraft from 1,865 feet to 4,656 feet, an increase of 2,791 feet in 7 minutes and covering 7 nautical miles.
The aircraft continued to cruise at various altitudes, with a level cruise lasting 2 minutes and covering 2 nautical miles, 3 miles north of 06TA Glaser Field Buckholts. Another enroute climb took the aircraft from 5,290 feet to 5,909 feet, an increase of 618 feet in 2 minutes and covering 2 nautical miles, 4 miles northeast of Rogers.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise, lasting 2 minutes and covering 3 nautical miles, 7 miles northeast of Rogers. However, this was followed by an enroute descent, which started 7 miles north of Rogers and took the aircraft from 6,161 feet to 2,834 feet, a decrease of 3,328 feet in 4 minutes and covering 7 nautical miles.
The aircraft continued to cruise at various altitudes, with a level cruise lasting 6 minutes and covering 2 nautical miles, 1 mile east of Temple. Another enroute descent took the aircraft from 2,072 feet to 896 feet, a decrease of 1,176 feet in 3 minutes and covering 3 nautical miles, 1 mile northwest of Temple.
The final approach to runway 33 at KTPL Draughon Miller Central Texas Regional Airport was made from the south, heading 339.0° at 1 nautical mile and 210 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 33 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 43 meters and a touchdown speed of 42 knots, which was slightly fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -279 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The total landing distance was 246 meters, which accounted for 12% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the aircraft taxied to the parking from the runway in 2 minutes, covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 29 nautical miles, taking 31 minutes, and the aircraft used 8 kilograms of fuel.
The Cessna-140 RA aircraft successfully landed at KTPL Draughon Miller Central Texas Regional Airport, achieving a score of 95.6%. The final approach to runway 33 was conducted from the south, with the aircraft heading 339.0° at 1 nautical mile and 210 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot demonstrated good control and precision during the approach, ultimately landing safely on the runway.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down at a speed of 42 knots, which was slightly faster than the recommended threshold speed of 44 knots. However, the touchdown distance of 43 meters was within acceptable limits. The touchdown rate of -279 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, indicating a moderate rate of descent. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a light wind of 1 knot from 269°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, and there was no headwind. These conditions contributed to a smooth and stable approach.
The total landing distance of 246 meters was only 12% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop quickly and efficiently after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control and stability during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good skills and control throughout the approach and landing phases. The score of 95.6% reflects the high level of proficiency and safety demonstrated during the landing.
