MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,611 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 271 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 04 at KHOU William P Hobby Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,377 meters, which accounted for 59% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 157 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 14 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 3 knots at 30 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the headwind was 3 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile west of South Houston, Texas, and involved a significant increase in altitude from 1,062 feet above sea level to 35,460 feet above sea level, a rise of 34,397 feet in 14 minutes and covering a distance of 169 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which began 1 mile north of LS90 Caddo Detention Center Airport Keithville, Louisiana. This phase lasted for 23 minutes and covered a distance of 501 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 2 miles west of Mechanicsburg, Illinois, and descended from 35,245 feet above sea level to 1,480 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,766 feet in 17 minutes and covering a distance of 144 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 22L at KMDW Chicago Midway International Airport was made from the north-east, with a heading of 223.0 degrees at 3 nautical miles and 862 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 22L was successful, with a runway length of 1,611 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 148 knots. The touchdown distance was 270 meters, which was within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown speed of 142 knots was slightly faster than desired.
The touchdown rate was smooth at -134 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.3 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of -8 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 9 knots at 226 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the headwind was 9 knots. The total landing distance was 857 meters, which accounted for 53% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
The final taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 821 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 62 minutes. The aircraft used 5,478 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at Chicago Midway International Airport (KMDW) on runway 22L. The final approach was initiated from the northeast, heading 223.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 862 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, indicating a stable and controlled descent.
Upon touchdown, the threshold speed was recorded at 148 knots, which is within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown speed of 142 knots was slightly faster than desired, suggesting that the pilot may have been able to maintain a more optimal speed during the landing. The touchdown rate was smooth, with a descent rate of -134 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a controlled and gentle touchdown.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 7.3 meters, which may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error. However, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain a stable and controlled path after touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -8°C and a wind speed of 9 knots from 226°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 9 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly faster touchdown speed. The total landing distance was 857 meters, which is 53% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with a score of 97.6%. While there were some minor deviations from optimal performance, the pilot was able to maintain a stable and controlled approach and touchdown, and the aircraft was able to roll out safely and smoothly after landing.
