Flight Score
Smooth the climb
A good takeoff has a defined shape. It also has a defined end. For an airliner that's thrust reduction and acceleration, commonly somewhere around 1,000 to 1,500 ft above the airfield depending on the operator, while for a light aircraft it's established at Vy with the flaps on schedule. Most simmers have no defined end to their takeoff, which is exactly why it never gets judged.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
Side view — the last 744 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 744 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 175 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 08 at EGFI Fishburn Airfield, where the DA40-XLS aircraft took off with a takeoff distance of 80 meters, which is 11% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 68 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270 degrees, resulting in a negligible crosswind and a slight tailwind.
As the aircraft entered the right-hand pattern, it did so from runway 08, with the entry distance being less than 1 nautical mile in 20 seconds. The right-hand pattern crosswind was also negligible, with the aircraft completing the turn in less than 1 nautical mile in 26 seconds. The pattern downwind turn was made at an angle of 51.1 degrees to the runway, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The downwind leg itself was 2 nautical miles long, taking 57 seconds to complete.
The base leg turn was made at an angle of 27.8 degrees to the runway, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The base leg itself was less than 1 nautical mile long, taking just 7 seconds to complete. The final turn was made in less than 1 nautical mile in 23 seconds, setting up the aircraft for a final approach to runway 08 from the west, at a heading of 85.0 degrees and an altitude of 121.6 meters above ground level.
The landing on runway 08 was smooth, with a threshold height that was good and a threshold speed of 70 knots. The touchdown distance was also good, at 172 meters, and the touchdown speed was 60 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was -0.8 meters per second, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions remained the same, with a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270 degrees.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 7 nautical miles, taking 4 minutes to complete, and used 2 kilograms of fuel. The flight was a testament to the pilot's skill and the aircraft's performance, with a smooth and controlled approach and landing.
The DA40-XLS aircraft successfully landed at EGFI Fishburn Airfield, achieving a score of 99.3%. The final approach was conducted from the west, heading 85.0° at 1 nautical mile and 121.6 meters above ground level (agl). The aircraft demonstrated excellent control and precision during the approach, ultimately landing safely on runway 08.
The runway at EGFI Fishburn Airfield has a length of 744 meters, providing a suitable surface for the DA40-XLS to touch down. The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway. The threshold speed of 70 knots was also well-managed, demonstrating the pilot's ability to control the aircraft's speed during the approach.
The touchdown distance of 172 meters was within acceptable limits, and the touchdown speed of 60 knots was also good. The touchdown rate of -0.8 meters per second was within the desired range, indicating a smooth and controlled touchdown. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to align the aircraft with the runway centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind component and a slight tailwind of 1 knot, which did not significantly impact the landing. Overall, the DA40-XLS aircraft performed well during the landing, and the pilot's skills and experience were evident in the smooth and controlled touchdown.
