MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 11,371 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,147 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Cessna CJ4 Citation taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Schenectady County Airport, taking 6 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. Departure roll took place on runway 22, with the aircraft lifting off after a takeoff distance of 2,664 feet, which was 38% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 132 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it encountered local weather conditions of a temperature of 61°F and a wind of 2 knots at 270°. The crosswind was 2 knots, and the headwind was 1 knot. The enroute climb started overhead the airport, with the aircraft ascending from 1,267 feet above sea level to 29,994 feet above sea level, an increase of 28,727 feet in 11 minutes and covering a distance of 54 nautical miles.
After reaching cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise 6 miles southwest of Pine Hill, New York, and remained at this altitude for 73 minutes, covering a distance of 558 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 1 mile southeast of McIntosh Airport in Kingstree, South Carolina, with the aircraft descending from 29,991 feet above sea level to 2,631 feet above sea level, a decrease of 27,360 feet in 16 minutes and covering a distance of 96 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise 7 miles north of Bluffton, South Carolina, and remained at this altitude for 9 minutes, covering a distance of 21 nautical miles. The enroute descent started overhead Wilmington Island, Georgia, with the aircraft descending from 2,508 feet above sea level to 1,312 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,196 feet in 2 minutes and covering a distance of 5 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 28 at Hunter Army Air Field was made from the east, with the aircraft heading 272.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,272 feet above ground level. The landing took place on a runway length of 11,371 feet, with a good threshold height. However, the threshold speed was too high at 127 knots, and the touchdown speed was excessively fast at 114 knots. The touchdown rate was hard at -406 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 27 feet from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 59°F and a wind of 2 knots at 269°, with a crosswind of 0 knots and a headwind of 2 knots. The total landing distance was 3,886 feet, which was 34% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 33 feet from the centreline. Taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 741 nautical miles, taking 119 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,913 pounds of fuel.
The Cessna CJ4 Citation aircraft successfully landed at KSVN Hunter Army Air Field, but the landing was not without its issues. The aircraft scored 84.4% on its landing, indicating that there were some areas for improvement. The final approach to runway 28 was made from the east, heading 272.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,272 feet above ground level.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 834 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a significant distance. The touchdown speed of 114 knots was excessively fast, and the touchdown rate was hard at -406 feet per minute. This suggests that the pilot may have been unable to slow the aircraft down sufficiently before touchdown, resulting in a hard landing.
In addition to the issues with touchdown speed and rate, the runway touchdown position was also misaligned by 27 feet from the centreline. This could have been due to a variety of factors, including wind or pilot error. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 59°F and a wind of 2 knots at 269°.
The total landing distance of 3,886 feet was 34% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 33 feet from the centreline, which could have been due to the pilot's inability to maintain a straight course during the rollout.
Overall, while the Cessna CJ4 Citation aircraft was able to land safely at KSVN Hunter Army Air Field, there were several areas for improvement. The pilot should focus on slowing the aircraft down more effectively before touchdown and maintaining a straight course during the rollout. With some practice and attention to these areas, the pilot should be able to improve their landing score and reduce the risk of hard landings.
