Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 12,322 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,097 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking area to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 36 at Colonel James Jabara Airport, with a takeoff distance of 2,437 feet, which was 40% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 146 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 53°F and a wind speed of 14 knots at 350°. The crosswind was 4 knots, and the headwind was 14 knots. After departing from the airport, the enroute climb started 1 mile north of the airport, with the aircraft climbing from an altitude of 2,163 feet above sea level to 17,912 feet above sea level, an increase of 15,749 feet in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 21 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 2 miles north of North Newton, Kansas, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 4 miles northwest of Goessel, Kansas, and the aircraft descended from 18,003 feet above sea level to 2,534 feet above sea level, a decrease of 15,469 feet in 8 minutes, covering a distance of 28 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 35 at Salina Municipal Airport was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 360° at 4 nautical miles and 1,281 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 35 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 1,103 feet, which was 20% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was a little fast at 110 knots, but the touchdown rate was firm at -318 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was also very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 48°F and a wind speed of 13 knots at 320°, with a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 10 knots. The total landing distance was 2,482 feet, and the total flight distance was 66 nautical miles, taking 25 minutes and using 623 pounds of fuel. The taxiing from the runway to the parking area took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
Aircraft C750 successfully landed at KSLN Salina Municipal Airport, achieving a high score of 98.8%. The final approach to runway 35 was conducted from the south, with the aircraft heading 360.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,281 feet above ground level (agl).
The landing was executed on runway 35, which has a length of 12,322 feet. The threshold height was reported as good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct height as it approached the runway threshold. The threshold speed of 116 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed during the approach.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's touchdown distance was 1,103 feet, which is considered good. However, the touchdown speed of 110 knots was slightly faster than the ideal speed, indicating that the pilot may have been able to flare the aircraft more effectively to achieve a smoother touchdown. The touchdown rate of -318 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting that the aircraft touched down with a moderate amount of force.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 48°F and winds of 13 knots from 320°. The crosswind component was 8 knots, while the headwind component was 10 knots.
The total landing distance of 2,482 feet was 20% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This suggests that the pilot was able to manage the aircraft's speed and descent rate effectively, resulting in a smooth and controlled landing. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing of aircraft C750 at KSLN Salina Municipal Airport was a successful one, with the pilot demonstrating good control and management of the aircraft throughout the approach and landing phases.
