Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,776 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,776 m of the 2,584 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 572 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 31 at Lučenec Airfield (LZLU), where the aircraft, a TBM 850, accelerated down the 362-meter runway, covering 45% of its length, before lifting off at a speed of 101 knots. The local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 16°C and a gentle wind blowing at 1 knot from a direction of 270°, resulting in a negligible crosswind and headwind.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airfield, it began its enroute climb 2 miles northeast of Lučenec, in the Banska Bystrica region of Slovakia. The climb was steep, with the aircraft ascending from an initial altitude of 1,659 feet above sea level to 6,710 feet, a vertical gain of 5,051 feet, in just 3 minutes. This impressive climb was achieved while covering a distance of 11 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 13 minutes and covered a distance of 35 nautical miles. This cruise phase took place 3 miles southeast of Hrinova, also in the Banska Bystrica region.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent 3 miles east of Pribylina, in the Zilina region of Slovakia. The descent was equally impressive, with the aircraft dropping from an altitude of 7,007 feet to 3,832 feet, a vertical loss of 3,175 feet, in just 3 minutes. This descent covered a distance of 10 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 09 at Poprad-Tatry Airport (LZTT) was made from the west, with the aircraft heading 94.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,512 feet above ground level. The landing was executed on the 2,584-meter runway, with the threshold height being significantly above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 82 knots.
The touchdown point was 135 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 64 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -377 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 15°C and a gentle wind blowing at 1 knot from a direction of 270°, resulting in a negligible crosswind and a tailwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,674 meters, which was 65% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.5 meters from the centerline. The total flight distance was 62 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 26 minutes. The aircraft used 65 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The TBM 850 aircraft successfully landed at LZTT Poprad-Tatry Airport, achieving an impressive score of 85.3%. The final approach to runway 09 was conducted from the west, with a heading of 94.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,512 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was characterized by a good threshold speed of 82 knots, which is a crucial factor in ensuring a safe and controlled landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was recorded at 64 knots, which is within the acceptable range. The touchdown point was located 135 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the ideal landing spot. However, the touchdown rate of -377 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting a controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, which is a testament to the pilot's skill and attention to detail.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. The crosswind component was negligible, and the tailwind was minimal at 1 knot. These conditions contributed to a smooth and stable approach.
The total landing distance of 1,674 meters was 65% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.5 meters from the centerline, which is a minor deviation that did not significantly impact the overall performance of the landing.
Overall, the TBM 850 aircraft demonstrated excellent handling and control during the landing, with a good threshold speed, firm touchdown rate, and perfect runway touchdown alignment. While there were some minor deviations from the ideal landing spot and rollout alignment, the pilot's skill and experience ensured a safe and successful landing.
