Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the full 5,000 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 5,195 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 04R at Logan International Airport, KBOS. The aircraft, a Seastar, took off with a takeoff distance of 259 feet, which was 3% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 84 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 328 degrees. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb overhead Winthrop, Massachusetts, and ascended from an altitude of 628 feet above sea level to 5,580 feet above sea level, an increase of 4,953 feet in just 4 minutes. This climb covered a distance of 13 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise began 5 miles northeast of Cohasset, Massachusetts, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 12 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 9 miles northeast of Ocean Bluff-Brant Rock, Massachusetts, and descended from 5,568 feet above sea level to 3 feet above sea level, a decrease of 5,565 feet in 8 minutes. This descent covered a distance of 16 nautical miles. The aircraft then encountered a go-around situation 1 mile south of Provincetown, Massachusetts, at an altitude of 3 feet above ground level.
The final approach to landing began 1 mile south of Provincetown, Massachusetts, and lasted from 1 nautical mile to 1 nautical mile at an altitude of 197 feet above ground level. As the aircraft approached touchdown, it descended from 62 feet above ground level to 0 feet above ground level in just 38 seconds. The touchdown speed was 72 knots, which was considered good, and the touchdown rate was perfect at -3 feet per minute.
The touchdown point was excessively long, using more than 75% of the available runway. The landing rollout 1 mile south of Provincetown, Massachusetts, covered a distance of 469 feet. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, taking 1 minute and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 43 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 20 minutes. The aircraft used 217 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Seastar aircraft successfully completed its landing at Provincetown, Massachusetts, with a score of 50.7%. The final approach to landing was initiated from a distance of 1 nautical mile, with the aircraft descending from an altitude of 197 feet above ground level (agl) to 0 ft agl. The descent was completed in 38 seconds, with a decrease in altitude of 62 ft.
As the aircraft approached touchdown, it was 1 mile south of Provincetown, and the touchdown speed was recorded at 72 knots, which was considered good. The touchdown rate was also perfect, with a rate of -3 feet per minute (fpm). However, the touchdown point was excessively long, utilizing more than 75% of the available runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 75°F and a wind speed of 5 knots at 328°. The crosswind component was 5 kt, while the headwind component was 3 kt. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing.
Following touchdown, the aircraft began its landing rollout, which was completed at an altitude of 0 ft above sea level (asl). The distance covered during the rollout was 469 ft, indicating a relatively long distance to come to a stop. Overall, while the landing was successful, there were some areas for improvement, particularly in terms of touchdown point and rollout distance.
