Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,140 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 405 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 16L at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,576 meters, which was 43% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 177 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 6 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 9 knots at 121 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 4 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south east of Normandy Park, Washington. The climb took 24 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,293 feet above sea level to 33,065 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,771 feet. The distance covered during this period was 147 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 68 miles west of Ocean Shores, Washington. This phase lasted for 322 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 1,981 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting at a latitude of 24.4544659 and a longitude of -156.3557495. The descent took 41 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 33,785 feet above sea level to 4,943 feet above sea level, a decrease of 28,842 feet. The distance covered during this period was 215 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started overhead Haliimaile, Hawaii. This phase lasted for 4 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 15 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 5 miles west of Wailea, Hawaii. The descent took 4 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 4,147 feet above sea level to 1,348 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,799 feet. The distance covered during this period was 10 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 02 at Kahului International Airport was made from the south west, with a heading of 35.0 degrees. The aircraft was at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,283 feet above ground level at this point. The landing was made on runway 02, which had a length of 2,140 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 124 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 405 meters, and the touchdown speed was 116 knots, which was also good. The touchdown rate was firm at -349 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.0 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 26 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 6 knots at 200 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a tailwind of 6 knots.
The total landing distance was 964 meters, which was 45% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 2,379 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 377 minutes. The aircraft used 16,224 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at PHOG Kahului International Airport, achieving a score of 96.2%. The final approach to runway 02 was initiated from the southwest, heading 35.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level.
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 124 knots, which was slightly below the target threshold speed. However, the touchdown distance of 405 meters was considered good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown speed of 116 knots was also within acceptable limits, and the touchdown rate of -349 feet per minute was firm but not excessive.
One notable aspect of the landing was the slight misalignment of the runway touchdown position, which was 7.0 meters off the centerline. This may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error, but it did not appear to have a significant impact on the overall performance of the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 26°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 200°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the tailwind component was 6 knots. These conditions would have made the landing relatively straightforward for the pilots.
The total landing distance of 964 meters was 45% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the pilots maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and brought it to a stop safely and efficiently. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft touching down smoothly and coming to a stop in a controlled manner.
