Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 2,047 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,047 m of the 3,282 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 345 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A319, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Václav Havel Airport Prague, taking approximately 9 minutes to cover a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 24, with the aircraft lifting off at a speed of 151 knots after covering 1,592 meters, which was 43% of the runway length.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it first started its enroute climb overhead Dobroviz in the Czech Republic, rising from an altitude of 2,221 feet above sea level to 37,110 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,889 feet, in 17 minutes and covering a distance of 84 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then began 3 miles south east of Boleslawiec in Poland and lasted for 55 minutes, covering a distance of 404 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 25 miles east of Loftahammar in Sweden, with the aircraft descending from an altitude of 36,412 feet above sea level to 1,538 feet above sea level, a decrease of 34,874 feet, in 26 minutes and covering a distance of 113 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 19R at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport was made from the north, with the aircraft heading 190.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,405 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing took place on runway 19R, which was 3,282 meters long, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 122 knots, slightly above the target speed. The touchdown distance was good at 345 meters, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.1 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 8 knots at 260 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,961 meters, which was 60% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, and the aircraft was able to taxi to the parking area from the runway in just 4 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 608 nautical miles, taking a total of 110 minutes, and the aircraft used 3,784 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 successfully landed at ESSA Stockholm-Arlanda Airport, with a score of 98.0%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north, heading 190.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,405 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with a good threshold height, indicating that the aircraft was properly configured for landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 128 kt, registering at 129 kt. However, the touchdown distance of 345 meters was considered good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain control and slow down effectively. The touchdown speed of 122 kt was a little fast, but not excessively so, and the touchdown rate of -323 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting a controlled descent.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.1 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error. However, the local weather conditions were relatively calm, with a temperature of 4°C and a wind speed of 8 kt at 260°. The crosswind component was 8 kt, while the headwind component was 3 kt, which may have contributed to the slight misalignment.
The total landing distance of 1,961 meters was 60% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the pilots were able to maintain control and align the aircraft with the runway centerline during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with a high score of 98.0%. However, there were some minor issues with the touchdown speed and runway alignment, which may be addressed in future training or operations.
