Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,531 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 669 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The XCub aircraft departed from S51 Andy McBeth Airport, rolling down runway 29. The takeoff distance covered 333 meters, which is 46% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 76 knots, marking the beginning of its journey.
As the aircraft entered the enroute level cruise phase, it flew overhead S51 Andy McBeth Airport and Klamath Glen in California, United States. This phase lasted for 10 minutes and covered a distance of 16 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent towards KCEC Jack McNamara Field Airport, approaching runway 30 from the southeast at a heading of 316.0 degrees and at an altitude of 715 feet above ground level.
Upon reaching the final approach phase, the aircraft was 2 nautical miles away from the airport and was at a height of 715 feet. The landing on runway 30 was successful, with the touchdown point being 228 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 46 knots, which is considered good, and the touchdown rate was an excellent -88 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled landing.
However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 14.0 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance covered 983 meters, which is 64% of the runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 12 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 8 knots at 111 degrees. The crosswind was 3 knots, and the tailwind was 7 knots.
The total flight distance was 19 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 13 minutes. Notably, the aircraft used zero kilograms of fuel during the entire flight.
The XCub aircraft successfully landed at KCEC Jack Mc Namara Field Airport, achieving a score of 86.7%. The final approach was conducted from the southeast, heading 316.0° at 2 nautical miles and 715 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 30, which has a length of 1,531 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was excessively high at 81 knots. This indicates that the pilot may have been able to improve their approach speed to achieve a more optimal touchdown. The touchdown point was 228 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which suggests that the pilot may have been able to make a more precise landing.
The touchdown speed of 46 knots was reported as good, and the touchdown rate of -88 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent. This indicates that the pilot was able to control the aircraft's descent and touchdown smoothly. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, which suggests that the pilot was able to maintain a stable and aligned approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were a temperature of 12°C, with a wind speed of 8 knots at 111°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, and the tailwind component was 7 knots. These conditions may have presented some challenges for the pilot, but they were able to successfully navigate the aircraft to the runway.
The total landing distance was 983 meters, which is 64% of the runway length. This suggests that the pilot was able to bring the aircraft to a stop relatively quickly and efficiently. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 14.0 meters from the centerline. This indicates that the pilot may have been able to improve their braking and control during the rollout phase of the landing.
Overall, the XCub aircraft performed well during the landing, with some areas for improvement identified. The pilot demonstrated good control and precision during the approach and touchdown, but may have been able to optimize their approach speed and rollout alignment.
