Departure
Add power to maintain the target climb speed as you continue the climb.
What happened: Climb speed fell well below the target during the climb out, sagging during the initial climb.
Watch for: Airspeed indicator: the target climb speed
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,595 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 384 m short of the threshold.
The rest of the report
Departing from Gimpo International Airport's runway 32R, the Cessna Skyhawk began its takeoff roll, accelerating down the 2,700-meter-long asphalt surface. The aircraft's wheels left the ground after a distance of 477 meters, representing 13% of the available runway length. At this point, the aircraft had reached a liftoff speed of 52 knots, marking the transition from ground effect to flight.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it encountered a calm and stable atmosphere, with a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a gentle breeze blowing at 1 knot from a direction of 270 degrees. The wind conditions resulted in a negligible crosswind component and a slight headwind, both of which were minimal at 1 knot. The aircraft's climb performance was not significantly impacted by these conditions, allowing it to ascend smoothly into the local air traffic control's assigned altitude.
After a short flight of approximately 1 nautical mile, the aircraft began its descent, touching down back at Gimpo International Airport. The total flight time was a mere 6 minutes, and the aircraft's fuel consumption during this brief excursion was a negligible 0 kilograms. The aircraft's performance was consistent with its design specifications, and the flight was completed without incident.
The Airbus A300 touched down on runway 32R at RKSS Gimpo International Airport with a good threshold height, allowing the crew to maintain a stable approach. The threshold speed was well above the target, at 140 kt, which provided a comfortable margin for the crew to manage the aircraft's descent and touchdown. The touchdown distance of 409 m was within acceptable limits, indicating a well-executed flare and touchdown.
However, the touchdown speed of 135 kt was slightly faster than desired, resulting in a firm touchdown rate of -312 fpm. This may have been due to the crew's decision to maintain a higher speed to ensure a stable approach, given the good threshold height. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.2 m from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach path or a minor issue with the aircraft's directional control.
The aircraft's rollout was characterized by very good alignment, with the crew successfully maintaining a straight path along the runway. The total landing distance of 1,412 m was 39% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 21 °C and a light headwind of 3 kt, contributed to a stable and predictable approach. Overall, the landing was scored 98.4%, reflecting the crew's ability to manage the aircraft's descent and touchdown, despite a few minor deviations from the ideal.
