Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 5,363 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,277 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, then departed from runway 18C at KMEM Memphis International Airport. The takeoff distance was 3,835 feet, which accounted for 34% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 146 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 59 degrees Fahrenheit and winds of 9 knots at 212 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 7 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south of KMEM Memphis International Airport, and climbed from an altitude of 1,335 feet above sea level to 35,013 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,678 feet, in 14 minutes and covering a distance of 73 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 1 mile east of M28 Mid Continent Airport Hayti, Missouri, and lasted for 31 minutes, covering a distance of 230 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting overhead 2LL3 Roy Burden Restricted Landing Area Shirley, Illinois, and descended from 34,643 feet above sea level to 2,823 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,820 feet, in 25 minutes and covering a distance of 120 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting overhead Calumet Park, Illinois, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 31C at KMDW Chicago Midway International Airport was made from the south east, heading 316.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,281 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 31C was successful, with a touchdown point 917 feet beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 131 knots, which was a little fast, but the touchdown rate was smooth at -149 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 52 degrees Fahrenheit and winds of 12 knots at 324 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 12 knots.
The total landing distance was 3,935 feet, which accounted for 73% of the runway. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 6 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 436 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 90 minutes. The aircraft used 7,100 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-700 aircraft successfully landed at Chicago Midway International Airport (KMDW) on runway 31C, achieving a score of 96.8%. The final approach was initiated from the southeast, heading 316.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,281 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway, with the threshold height being well within the acceptable range. However, the threshold speed was above the target speed, indicating that the aircraft was descending at a slightly faster rate than intended. The touchdown point was located 917 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was recorded at 131 knots, which is slightly faster than the target speed. Nevertheless, the touchdown rate was smooth, with a descent rate of -149 feet per minute (fpm). This indicates that the aircraft's landing was relatively gentle and controlled.
The runway touchdown alignment was excellent, with the aircraft aligning perfectly with the runway centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 52°F and a wind speed of 12 knots from 324°. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 12 knots, which the aircraft successfully managed during the landing.
The total landing distance was 3,935 feet, which accounts for 73% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was well-controlled throughout the descent and touchdown phases. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, with the aircraft maintaining a straight course along the runway centerline.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 96.8%. The minor deviations in threshold speed and touchdown point were well within acceptable limits, and the aircraft's performance during the landing was generally excellent.
