MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 11,013 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,382 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Honda HA420 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at KFOE Topeka Regional Airport, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 31, with a takeoff distance of 4,514 feet, which was 35% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 146 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of a temperature of 64°F and a wind speed of 1 knot at 270°. The crosswind and headwind were both 1 knot. After departing from KFOE, the aircraft began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northwest of the airport and climbing from an altitude of 2,054 feet above sea level to 20,909 feet above sea level, an increase of 18,854 feet in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 37 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 3 miles west of 43KS Smith Airport Manhattan, and lasted for 56 minutes, covering a distance of 342 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 7 miles west of Limon, Colorado, and descending from 20,907 feet above sea level to 7,449 feet above sea level, a decrease of 13,458 feet in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 46 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 17R at KCOS City of Colorado Springs Municipal Airport was made from the north, heading 180.0°, at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,299 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 17R, which had a length of 11,013 feet. The threshold height was above the target, and the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 109 knots.
The touchdown point was 1,170 feet beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 97 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -245 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 27 feet from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 1 knot at 270°, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 0 knots.
The total landing distance was 3,939 feet, which was 36% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 27 feet from the centreline. The taxiing from the runway to the parking area took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 434 nautical miles, taking 86 minutes, and the aircraft used 0 pounds of fuel.
The Honda HA420 aircraft successfully landed at the City of Colorado Springs Municipal Airport (KCOS) on runway 17R. The final approach was initiated from the north, heading 180.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,299 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's performance during the landing was evaluated, and it scored an overall score of 88.8%.
The aircraft's approach to the runway was satisfactory, with the threshold height being above the target at 61 feet agl. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 109 knots. The touchdown point was 1,170 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which indicates that the aircraft landed slightly down the runway. The touchdown speed of 97 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -245 feet per minute (fpm) was fair.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 27 feet from the centreline, which suggests that the aircraft may have drifted slightly during the landing. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, and there was no headwind.
The total landing distance of 3,939 feet was 36% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 27 feet from the centreline, which may indicate some issues with the aircraft's directional control during the landing.
Overall, the Honda HA420 aircraft demonstrated a good performance during the landing, with some minor issues related to the touchdown position and rollout alignment. The aircraft's score of 88.8% indicates that it has the potential to improve its performance in these areas with further training and practice.
