Improve the rollout
A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,285 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 313 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The Airbus A321 then departed from runway 23L at Auckland International Airport (NZAA), with a takeoff distance of 1,800 meters, which accounted for 55% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 165 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 12 knots blowing from a direction of 180 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 11 knots and a headwind of 4 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb approximately 1 mile south-west of NZAA, rising from an altitude of 1,027 feet above sea level to 5,230 feet above sea level, an increase of 4,203 feet, in just 2 minutes and covering a distance of 7 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 7 miles south of Titirangi and lasted for 7 minutes, covering a distance of 19 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 2 miles south-east of Drury Airfield (NZDY), and descended from an altitude of 5,966 feet above sea level to 2,980 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,986 feet, in 4 minutes and covering a distance of 10 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 7 miles north-east of Ardmore Airport (NZAR) and lasted for 4 minutes, covering a distance of 11 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 23L at NZAA was made from the east, with the aircraft heading 251.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,276 feet above ground level, and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing on runway 23L was successful, with a touchdown distance of 313 meters, which was 32% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 141 knots, and the touchdown rate was -455 feet per minute, which was considered hard. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 15 knots blowing from a direction of 200 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 12 knots and a headwind of 10 knots.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 54 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 30 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 1,290 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed on runway 23L at Auckland International Airport (NZAA) with a score of 93.6%. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 251.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,276 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 142 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft demonstrated a good touchdown distance of 313 meters, and the touchdown speed was also within acceptable limits at 141 knots. However, the touchdown rate was slightly hard at -455 feet per minute (fpm), which may indicate a slight loss of control during the landing phase. Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was well-aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 18°C, with a wind speed of 15 knots from a direction of 200°. The crosswind component was 12 knots, while the headwind component was 10 knots. These conditions presented a moderate challenge for the pilot, but the aircraft's performance was satisfactory.
The total landing distance was 1,064 meters, which is approximately 32% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was well-controlled throughout the landing phase. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.7 meters from the centerline, which may indicate a slight deviation from the desired path during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft's performance was satisfactory despite some minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The pilot's skills and the aircraft's capabilities were well-suited to the challenging weather conditions, and the landing was completed safely and efficiently.
