MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 8,995 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,715 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in the Boeing 777-300 began with a taxi from the parking area to the runway at Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX), covering 1 nm in 8 minutes. The aircraft then entered Runway 25R at KLAX with an average speed of 16 kn. The departure roll from Runway 25R covered 6,405 ft (58% of the runway) with a takeoff speed of 178 kn.
During the departure climb, the aircraft reached various altitudes including 50 ft, 400 ft, and 1,000 ft above ground level. The enroute climb started 1 mile northwest of El Segundo, California, climbing from 1,155 ft to 36,010 ft over 16 minutes, covering 90 nm. The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase starting 14 miles south of Solvang, lasting 43 minutes and covering 744 nm.
Another climb phase started at Latitude: 30.4630429, Longitude: -134.2406567, climbing from 36,407 ft to 38,334 ft over 2 minutes, covering 39 nm. This was followed by another level cruise phase starting at Latitude: 30.2074141, Longitude: -135.0440334, lasting 39 minutes and covering 1,221 nm.
The descent phase of the flight started 65 miles north of Haiku-Pauwela, Hawaii, descending from 39,191 ft to 1,143 ft over 24 minutes, covering 123 nm. The final approach to Runway 04R at Daniel K Inouye International Airport (PHNL) from the southwest saw the aircraft descending steadily, with good alignment and speed control. The landing on Runway 04R at PHNL was smooth, with a good touchdown speed and rate, and the aircraft came to a stop within 4,910 ft (55% of the runway).
After touchdown, the aircraft taxied at an average speed of 32 kn before reaching the parking area at PHNL. The total flight distance was 2,229 nm, with a duration of 149 minutes and fuel consumption of 82,078 lbs. Overall, the flight was conducted smoothly and safely, meeting all operational and safety parameters.
Overall, the aircraft landing score of 98.5% reflects a very high level of proficiency and skill during each phase of the landing process.
During the Approach Phase, the pilot demonstrated excellent glideslope alignment which is crucial for a safe and smooth descent towards the runway. Additionally, the threshold speed of 142 knots shows that the aircraft was properly managed in terms of speed control during the approach.
Moving on to the Landing Phase, the pilot maintained a good threshold height, meaning the aircraft was at an appropriate altitude for a successful landing. The great landing flare indicates that the pilot executed the final descent and transition to the runway with precision and finesse.
In the Touchdown Phase, the smooth touchdown rate of -105 ft/min suggests a gentle and controlled contact with the runway, minimizing the impact on the aircraft and passengers. The touchdown speed of 132 knots was within acceptable limits, further demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's velocity effectively. The fact that the touchdown point was 649 feet beyond the touchdown zone indicates a well-timed and executed landing, with the aircraft coming to a stop at an appropriate distance from the runway threshold.
Overall, the runway touchdown alignment being perfect further highlights the pilot's adeptness at maintaining the aircraft's track in relation to the runway centerline throughout the landing process. This attention to detail and precision in all phases of the landing contributed to the high landing score achieved.
Congratulations on a job well done, and keep up the great work in maintaining such high standards of aviation proficiency!
