Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,329 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 439 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a short taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, taking approximately 1 minute and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-600, then departed from runway 14 at SEGS Seymour Galapagos Ecological Airport. The takeoff distance was 942 meters, which accounted for 39% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 149 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 23°C, a wind speed of 5 knots at 180°, with a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 4 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of SEGS Seymour Galapagos Ecological Airport, it began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south east of the airport. The climb took 26 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,200 feet above sea level to 38,955 feet above sea level, an increase of 37,755 feet. The enroute climb covered a distance of 185 nautical miles. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 115 minutes and covered a distance of 1,444 nautical miles. The cruise phase took place at a specific location defined by latitude 1.2596855 and longitude -87.6894337.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent, starting 63 miles south west of MYAB Clarence A. Bain Airport Mangrove Cay. The descent took 16 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 38,892 feet above sea level to 1,281 feet above sea level, a decrease of 37,611 feet. The enroute descent covered a distance of 99 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 14 at MYNN Lynden Pindling International Airport was made from the north west, with a heading of 135.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,252 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 14 at MYNN Lynden Pindling International Airport was successful, with a touchdown distance of 439 meters, which was 27% of the runway length. The threshold speed was good at 123 knots, and the touchdown speed was 115 knots, which was also good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -215 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.2 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 28°C, a wind speed of 2 knots at 290°, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a tailwind of 2 knots.
Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 1 minute and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,733 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 162 minutes. The aircraft used 9,320 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-600 aircraft successfully landed at Lynden Pindling International Airport, with a final approach score of 99.2%. The aircraft was approaching runway 14 from the north-west, heading 135.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,252 feet above ground level.
The landing was executed smoothly, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 123 knots. The touchdown distance was also within acceptable limits at 439 meters. The touchdown speed of 115 knots was satisfactory, but the touchdown rate of -215 feet per minute was only fair, indicating a slightly steeper descent than ideal.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 4.2 meters, which may require some adjustments in the approach and landing procedures. However, the local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 28°C and a gentle wind of 2 knots from 290°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, and the tailwind component was 2 knots, which did not significantly impact the landing.
The total landing distance of 887 meters was only 27% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft was well under control during the landing roll. Overall, the landing was successful, with only minor areas for improvement.
