Departure
Use smoother, smaller aileron inputs to keep the wings level and hold bank angle near wings-level during the climb.
What happened: During the climb, bank angle rose to 6°, more roll than the climb out called for.
Watch for: Attitude indicator: wings level during the climb
Arrival
Add power on short final to hold speed at 69 kt, correcting the slow threshold speed before it carries through to the flare.
What happened: Threshold speed was slow at 67 kt against 69 kt, and touchdown followed short of the aim point at 90 m. Crossing the threshold slow like this usually carries the touchdown short.
Watch for: Airspeed indicator against 69 kt on short final.
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out. These checks are the approach's score.
At the 500 ft gate: centreline 16.0° off, against a 1° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 520 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 520 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 90 m short of the threshold. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The aircraft departed AYDM Duranmin Airstrip on runway 24, employing a takeoff run of 209 m which represented 40 % of the available runway. Liftoff was achieved at 66 kt. Ambient temperature was 16 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 269°, including a 1 kt cross-wind component and a 2 kt head-wind component.
The initial climb began directly overhead the airstrip, climbing from 3,021 ft asl to 6,646 ft asl. The aircraft gained 3,626 ft in 4 minutes while covering 4 nm.
A brief level cruise followed 3 miles west of the airstrip, lasting 1 minute and extending for 2 nm.
A second climb segment started 5 miles west of the airstrip, with altitude increasing from 7,828 ft asl to 6,704 ft asl. The climb added 1,124 ft in 2 minutes over a distance of 5 nm.
The descent phase commenced 5 miles south of the airstrip, descending from 6,608 ft asl to 3,734 ft asl. A loss of 2,874 ft was achieved in 3 minutes while traversing 9 nm.
Subsequent level cruise began 5 miles south-east of the airstrip, lasting 3 minutes and covering 5 nm.
During final approach to runway 24, the aircraft descended from 865 ft agl to 17 ft agl in 65 seconds and was recorded as having scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing was executed on runway 24, whose total length is 520 m. Touchdown occurred 90 m short of the threshold; the threshold speed was 67 kt and touchdown speed was 50 kt. The vertical speed at touchdown was minus 230 fpm and the touchdown point was laterally offset by 5.4 m from the centreline. Local weather at the time was 15 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 269°, a 1 kt cross-wind and a 2 kt head-wind. The total landing roll measured 439 m, representing 84 % of the runway.
Runway rollout alignment was noted as slightly off centreline by 7.8 m.
In total, the flight covered 28 nm, took 12 minutes, and consumed 28 kg of fuel.
