Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 6,953 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,404 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 23 at CNZ3 Chatham-Kent Airport. The Honda HA420 aircraft took off with a takeoff distance of 2,174 feet, which was 44% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 141 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 29 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind speed of 22 knots from a direction of 250 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 20 knots.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb overhead CYCK Chatham-Kent Airport, located in Chatham-Kent, Ontario, Canada. The climb began at an altitude of 1,728 feet above sea level and continued to an altitude of 28,291 feet above sea level, an increase of 26,563 feet in just 9 minutes. During this time, the aircraft covered a distance of 35 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 4 miles south-east of COS2 Iona Station, also located in Ontario, Canada. This phase of the flight lasted for 13 minutes and covered a distance of 88 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent 1 mile west of Oakville, Ontario. The descent started at an altitude of 28,030 feet above sea level and continued to an altitude of 1,821 feet above sea level, a decrease of 26,209 feet in 18 minutes. During this time, the aircraft covered a distance of 79 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 27 at CYPQ Peterborough Municipal Airport was made from the east, with a heading of 256.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,196 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 27 at CYPQ Peterborough Municipal Airport was successful, with a touchdown distance of 1,401 feet, which was 34% of the runway. The touchdown speed was 88 knots, and the touchdown rate was excellent at -63 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was also very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 23 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind speed of 7 knots from a direction of 213 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 5 knots.
The total flight distance was 208 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 44 minutes. The aircraft used a total of -220 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Honda HA420 aircraft successfully landed at CYPQ Peterborough Municipal Airport, achieving a high score of 97.6%. The final approach to runway 27 was conducted from the east, with the aircraft heading 256.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,196 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 107 knots, which was slightly below the target threshold speed. However, this did not affect the overall performance of the landing, as the touchdown distance of 1,401 feet was considered good. The touchdown speed of 88 knots was also within acceptable limits, and the touchdown rate of -63 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 23°F and a wind speed of 7 knots from 213°. The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the headwind component was also 5 knots, resulting in a negligible effect on the aircraft's performance. The runway length of 6,953 feet was more than sufficient to accommodate the aircraft's landing distance, which was 34% of the runway length.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the aircraft maintained its alignment with the runway centerline during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft performing well in terms of speed, distance, and alignment.
