Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,633 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,633 m of the 3,203 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 540 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was operated by Vueling, with the aircraft registration EC-MGZ. The journey began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway at Bilbao Airport (LEBB), which took approximately 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles (nm).
As the aircraft prepared for departure, it rolled down runway 30 at LEBB, utilizing 69% of the runway's length to achieve a takeoff distance of 1,462 meters. The liftoff speed was recorded at 151 knots (kt), and the local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 13°C, with a wind speed of 9 kt at 293°. The crosswind component was negligible, while the headwind component was 9 kt.
Following a successful takeoff, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started approximately 1 mile east of Erandio, Spain. The climb phase involved an ascent from 1,133 feet above sea level (asl) to 31,755 ft asl, an increase of 30,622 feet in just 16 minutes, covering a distance of 76 nm.
The enroute level cruise phase began approximately 1 mile south of Estepar, Spain, and lasted for 33 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 259 nm. This was followed by a descent phase, which started 2 miles east of La Balanzona Cordoba Airport (LECG), and involved a decrease in altitude from 31,843 ft asl to 14,837 ft asl, a decrease of 17,006 feet in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 59 nm.
The flight continued with multiple enroute level cruise phases, each lasting between 2 and 33 minutes, and covering distances ranging from 5 to 259 nm. These phases were interspersed with descent phases, which involved decreases in altitude ranging from 531 to 10,667 feet, and covering distances of up to 25 nm.
The final approach to runway 31 at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (LEMG) was initiated from the south-east, with the aircraft heading 312.0° at an altitude of 1,257 feet above ground level (agl) and a distance of 4 nm from the runway threshold. The landing was successful, with the touchdown point located 121 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was recorded at 133 kt, which was within the acceptable range, while the touchdown rate was fair at -255 feet per minute (fpm).
The total landing distance was 1,549 meters, which accounted for 48% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled deceleration of the aircraft following touchdown. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took approximately 8 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nm.
In summary, the flight operated by Vueling, with the aircraft registration EC-MGZ, covered a total distance of 468 nm, utilizing 3,647 kg of fuel and taking a total of 99 minutes to complete. The flight was characterized by multiple phases of enroute climb, level cruise, and descent, as well as a successful final approach and landing at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport.
A Vueling aircraft, registered as EC-MGZ, successfully landed at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (LEMG) with a score of 92.5%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southeast, heading 312.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,257 feet above ground level (agl).
The landing was executed on runway 31, which has a length of 3,203 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was maintained at 135 knots, indicating a well-controlled approach. The touchdown point was 121 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly off-center but not significantly impacting the overall performance.
The touchdown speed of 133 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -255 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, suggesting a slightly steeper descent than ideal. However, this did not significantly impact the overall landing performance.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 9°C, with a wind speed of 10 knots from 290°. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 10 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly off-center touchdown.
The total landing distance of 1,549 meters was 48% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft was well-controlled during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing performance of EC-MGZ was satisfactory, with a score of 92.5%. While there were some minor deviations from ideal performance, the aircraft was well-controlled throughout the approach and landing phases.
