MY FS FLIGHTS

Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,049 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 484 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 16L at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (KSEA). The takeoff distance was 1,601 meters, which accounted for 44% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 170 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 15°C, with a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 200°. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 5 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south east of Normandy Park, Washington. The climb took 19 minutes and covered a distance of 117 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,321 feet above sea level to 34,556 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,235 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 7 miles north east of Soap Lake, Washington. This phase lasted for 174 minutes and covered a distance of 1,420 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile south west of White Cloud, Michigan. The descent took 21 minutes and covered a distance of 133 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 36,172 feet above sea level to 5,371 feet above sea level, a decrease of 30,801 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile north east of Royal Oak, Michigan. This phase lasted for only 2 minutes and covered a distance of 5 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 2 miles south of Oak Park, Michigan. The descent took 3 minutes and covered a distance of 10 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 5,036 feet above sea level to 1,926 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,110 feet.
The final approach to runway 21L at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (KDTW) was made from the north east, with a heading of 209.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,285 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 21L, which had a length of 3,049 meters. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 142 knots.
The touchdown point was 68 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 135 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -275 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.2 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 33°C, with a wind speed of 13 knots from a direction of 240°. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 11 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,319 meters, which accounted for 43% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 7 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,696 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 238 minutes. The aircraft used 9,730 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at KDTW Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, achieving a score of 97.6%. The final approach to runway 21L was initiated from the north east, heading 209.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,285 feet above ground level.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 68 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly off-center. The touchdown speed of 135 knots was a bit faster than the target speed, indicating that the pilots may have needed to apply more braking force to bring the aircraft to a stop. The touchdown rate of -275 feet per minute was considered fair, suggesting that the pilots managed to control the descent effectively.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.2 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the pilots' attempt to compensate for the crosswind. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 33°C and a wind speed of 13 knots from 240°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the headwind component was 11 knots, which may have affected the pilots' ability to maintain a straight course.
Despite the slight misalignment, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilots were able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. The total landing distance of 1,319 meters was 43% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the pilots demonstrating good control and management of the aircraft during the approach and rollout phases. However, there is room for improvement in terms of touchdown speed and alignment with the centerline.
