Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,736 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,736 m of the 2,380 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 657 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 13R at John F. Kennedy International Airport (KJFK) in New York. The takeoff distance was 2,308 meters, which accounted for 82% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 176 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 22°C temperature and winds of 8 knots at 197 degrees. The crosswind was 7 knots, while the headwind was 2 knots. The enroute climb started overhead KJFK, with the aircraft ascending from 1,015 feet above sea level to 35,033 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,018 feet in 16 minutes and covering 146 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile east of Ocean Pines in Maryland and lasted 35 minutes, covering 672 nautical miles. The cruise phase was followed by a descent, which began 49 miles east of South Beach in Florida. The aircraft descended from 35,211 feet above sea level to 3,915 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,296 feet in 18 minutes and covering 106 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 2 miles northwest of Plantation in Florida and lasted 2 minutes, covering 6 nautical miles. This was followed by another descent, which began 1 mile northeast of Weston in Florida. The aircraft descended from 3,057 feet above sea level to 1,293 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,764 feet in 3 minutes and covering 8 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 10L at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (KFLL) was made from the west, with the aircraft heading 90.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,260 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 10L, which had a length of 2,380 meters. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 148 knots.
The touchdown point was 245 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 138 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -233 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.1 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 25°C temperature and winds of 8 knots at 154 degrees, with a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 4 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,660 meters, which accounted for 70% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 948 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 85 minutes. The aircraft used 7,179 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (KFLL) on runway 10L, achieving a score of 95.6%. The final approach was initiated from the west, heading 90.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,260 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a steady course, and the landing was executed on the designated runway.
The threshold height was satisfactory, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 148 knots. This minor deviation from the ideal speed may have contributed to a slightly faster touchdown speed of 138 knots. The touchdown point was located 245 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown rate of -233 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, indicating a relatively smooth descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 25°C and a gentle wind of 8 knots at 154°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the headwind component was 4 knots. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,660 meters was 70% of the runway length, which is a relatively efficient use of the available runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was well under control during the post-landing phase. Overall, the landing was executed smoothly, with only minor deviations from the ideal parameters.
