Flight Score
Arrival
Make small rudder corrections to track a point at the far end of the runway and close the offset before touchdown.
What happened: You touched down with the centreline offset by 5.7 m.
Watch for: Watch runway centreline alignment, keeping offset inside the limit.
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,181 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 543 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A320-ceo departed EDDK Cologne Bonn Airport from runway 13L, employing a take-off roll of 2,190 m which represented 58 % of the available runway. Liftoff was achieved at 168 kt. Ambient conditions were 26 °C with a wind of 9 kt from 089°, including a 7 kt cross-wind component and a 6 kt head-wind component.
Climb commenced one mile west of Lohmar, lifting the aircraft from 1,277 ft asl to 34,009 ft asl, an altitude gain of 32,733 ft. The climb was completed in 14 minutes while covering 178 nm.
The first cruise segment began overhead Fresnoy-le-Grand in France and continued for 38 minutes, during which the aircraft travelled 530 nm at level flight.
Descent phase one started 40 nm north of Cudillero, Spain, reducing altitude from 34,011 ft asl to 32,977 ft asl, a loss of 1,034 ft. This descent lasted 2 minutes and covered 11 nm.
A second cruise segment was initiated 32 nm north of Cudillero and persisted for 14 minutes, during which 109 nm were flown at cruise altitude.
The second descent began 5 nm south of Chantada, descending from 32,621 ft asl to 10,941 ft asl, a decrease of 21,680 ft. The aircraft completed this segment in 9 minutes while covering 56 nm.
A brief cruise followed 3 nm north of Goaes, lasting 2 minutes and spanning 8 nm.
The third descent started 3 nm north-west of Merelim, bringing the aircraft from 10,551 ft asl down to 1,319 ft asl, a loss of 9,232 ft. This phase required 6 minutes and covered 24 nm.
Final approach to runway 17 at LPPR Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport was conducted with a descent from 1,175 ft agl to 27 ft agl in 112 seconds. Weather at the destination was 20 °C with a wind of 26 kt from 180°, including a 5 kt cross-wind and a 25 kt head-wind component; the approach was scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 17 was achieved with a threshold speed of 142 kt, slightly above target. Touchdown occurred 115 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 130 kt and a vertical rate of minus 5 fpm. The touchdown point was offset 5.7 m from the centreline. The total landing distance was 1,182 m, representing 37 % of the runway length of 3,181 m, and rollout alignment was reported as very good.
After touchdown, the aircraft rolled out and taxied to the parking area, a taxi-in of 8 minutes covering 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 925 nm, required 98 minutes of airborne time, and consumed 52 kg of fuel.
The Airbus A320ceo executed a stabilised approach at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits. The final approach to runway 17 at LPPR Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport descended from 1,175 ft AGL to 27 ft AGL in 112 seconds, and the pilot was scored on the stabilisation gates. Local conditions were 20 °C with a wind of 26 kt from 180°, including a 5 kt cross-wind component and a 25 kt head-wind.
At threshold the aircraft maintained a speed slightly above target at 142 kt and achieved a good threshold height, setting up the flare for touchdown.
Touchdown occurred 115 m beyond the designated touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 130 kt that was judged good and a vertical rate of -5 fpm described as perfect. The touchdown point was offset by 5.7 m from the centreline.
The aircraft rolled out over a total landing distance of 1,182 m, representing 37 % of the 3,181 m runway, and the rollout alignment was recorded as very good.
With a score of 98.0 %, the landing was excellent; focusing on attaining the exact threshold speed target and tightening centreline alignment at touchdown will convert the minor deviations into a flawless performance.
