Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,403 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 445 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in the Boeing 737-700 began with a smooth departure from San Sebastián Airport (LESO), taking off from runway 04. The aircraft achieved liftoff speed of 146 knots after covering 78% of the runway, with local weather conditions showing a temperature of 14°C and light winds.
The enroute climb commenced overhead Hendaye in France, with the aircraft climbing from 1,073 feet above sea level to 30,343 feet, covering 126 nautical miles in 21 minutes. After a brief level cruise, a second climb phase began overhead Issus, increasing the altitude to 36,702 feet in just 4 minutes.
The descent phase was initiated over Cuxac-Cabardes, bringing the aircraft down to 35,430 feet in 2 minutes. Another climb followed north of Siran, reaching an altitude of 38,267 feet in 4 minutes before entering a longer level cruise phase, covering 888 nm in 81 minutes.
The final descent began east of Glyfada, bringing the aircraft down to 4,026 feet in 11 minutes. A brief cruise segment was followed by a final descent south of Vouliagmeni, reaching an altitude of 1,528 feet in 3 minutes.
The approach to runway 03R at Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport was from the southwest at 4 nautical miles, with the aircraft landing smoothly with a touchdown speed of 130 knots. The touchdown rate was excellent at -61 ft/m, with the aircraft coming to a stop after 447 meters on the runway.
The total flight distance covered was 1,217 nm over a duration of 141 minutes, consuming 7,366 kg of fuel. The landing distance was 993 meters, representing 29% of the runway length, with a perfect alignment during the rollout to the parking area in just 2 minutes.
Congratulations on achieving a perfect landing score of 100.0%! Your exceptional performance throughout the various phases of the aircraft landing is truly commendable.
During the Approach Phase, your glideslope alignment was excellent, ensuring that the aircraft descended smoothly towards the runway. Additionally, maintaining a threshold speed of 134 knots showcases your precise control over the aircraft during this critical phase.
Moving on to the Landing Phase, your skill in handling the aircraft was clearly evident with a good threshold height and a perfect landing flare. This indicates your ability to set the aircraft down gently and smoothly on the runway, minimizing any potential impact forces.
The Touchdown Phase was equally impressive, with an outstanding touchdown rate of -61 feet per minute. This reflects your ability to execute a soft and controlled landing. Furthermore, the touchdown speed of 130 knots and touchdown distance of 447 meters were both within acceptable limits, demonstrating your proficiency in managing the aircraft's descent.
Lastly, your runway touchdown alignment was perfect, ensuring that the aircraft touched down exactly where intended. This level of precision is essential for ensuring the safety and efficiency of the landing operation.
Overall, your performance during this landing was exceptional, reflecting a high level of skill and proficiency as a pilot. Keep up the great work and continue striving for excellence in all your future flights. Well done!
