Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 4,830 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the full 4,830 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,240 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking to the runway at KELP El Paso International Airport, taking 16 minutes and covering 4 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Cessna 208B, then departed from runway 22, with a takeoff distance of 203 meters, which was 6% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 65 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 27 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 14 knots at 240 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead KELP El Paso International Airport. The climb took 14 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 4,929 feet above sea level to 16,542 feet, an increase of 11,613 feet. The enroute climb covered a distance of 22 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which started 6 miles southwest of Dona Ana Co At Santa Teresa Airport in New Mexico. This cruise phase lasted for 8 minutes and covered 18 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 22 miles east of Columbus, New Mexico. The descent took 8 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 16,405 feet to 10,608 feet, a decrease of 5,797 feet. The enroute descent covered a distance of 21 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile northeast of NM09 First Aero Squadron Airpark in Columbus, New Mexico. This cruise phase lasted for 19 minutes and covered 46 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started overhead NM86 Playas Air Strip in New Mexico. The descent took 5 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 10,291 feet to 6,650 feet, a decrease of 3,641 feet. The enroute descent covered a distance of 13 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 5 miles south of NM12 Chowning Heliport in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This cruise phase lasted for 8 minutes and covered 12 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 3 miles northeast of 25AZ Mystery Well Ranch Airport in Arizona. The descent took 3 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 6,251 feet to 4,352 feet, a decrease of 1,899 feet. The enroute descent covered a distance of 6 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 35 at NM70 Rodeo Airport was made from the south, with a heading of 355.0 degrees at 1 nautical mile and 191 feet above ground level. However, a go-around was initiated at 665 feet above ground level. The aircraft then landed on runway 35, with a touchdown distance of 375 meters. The touchdown speed was 52 knots, which was good, but the touchdown rate was hard at -410 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 21.6 meters from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 23 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 14 knots at 258 degrees. The crosswind was 14 knots, and the tailwind was 3 knots. The total landing distance was 576 meters, which was 39% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 20.4 meters from the centreline.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking, taking 6 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 154 nautical miles, and the total flight time was 109 minutes. The aircraft used 296 kilograms of fuel during the flight
The Cessna 208B aircraft successfully landed at NM70 Rodeo Airport, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing performance. The final approach was initiated from the south, heading 355.0° at 1 nm and 191 ft above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 35, which has a length of 1,472 meters.
The threshold height was reported to be good, but the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 57 kt. This indicates that the pilot may have been able to maintain a higher speed during the approach, but chose to flare earlier than necessary. The touchdown distance of 375 meters was considered good, and the touchdown speed of 52 kt was also within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown rate was reported to be hard at -410 fpm, which may indicate a slightly aggressive flare.
One of the notable issues with this landing was the significant misalignment of the runway touchdown position, which was 21.6 meters off the centerline. This suggests that the pilot may have been struggling to maintain a straight course during the approach or may have been affected by crosswind or other external factors. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing included a temperature of 23°C and a wind speed of 14 kt from 258°, resulting in a crosswind component of 14 kt and a tailwind component of 3 kt.
The total landing distance of 576 meters was 39% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. However, the runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 20.4 meters from the centerline, which may indicate a continued struggle to maintain control during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the Cessna 208B aircraft successfully landed at NM70 Rodeo Airport, there were some notable deviations from the ideal landing performance. The pilot may benefit from additional training or practice to improve their ability to maintain a straight course and control the aircraft during the approach and rollout phases.
