Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,693 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 299 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 06 at LEIB Ibiza Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,441 meters, which accounted for 52% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 157 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 15°C temperature and a wind speed of 10 knots at 20°. The crosswind was 7 knots, and the headwind was also 7 knots. After departing from Ibiza, the aircraft began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northeast of the airport and ascending to 31,442 feet above sea level, an increase of 30,425 feet in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 142 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 2 miles southwest of Sant Lluis, Spain, and lasted for 36 minutes, covering 274 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another enroute climb, this time from 31,760 feet to 33,117 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,356 feet in 2 minutes, covering 12 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise resumed 4 miles southwest of Meolans-Revel, France, and lasted for 32 minutes, covering 230 nautical miles.
As the aircraft continued its journey, it began its enroute descent from 33,129 feet above sea level to 5,358 feet above sea level, a decrease of 27,771 feet in 18 minutes, covering 109 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started again overhead Leutershausen, Germany, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering 14 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent from 4,744 feet above sea level to 2,426 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,318 feet in 4 minutes, covering 11 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 10 at EDDN Nuremberg Airport was made from the west, with a heading of 99.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,382 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 10 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 299 meters, which was good. The touchdown speed was 132 knots, which was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was fair at -241 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were -1°C temperature and a wind speed of 6 knots at 70°. The crosswind was 3 knots, and the headwind was 5 knots. The total landing distance was 1,346 meters, which accounted for 50% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxiied to the parking from the runway, which took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 801 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 134 minutes. The aircraft used 6,753 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at Nuremberg Airport (EDDN) with a score of 99.6%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 99.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,382 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed safely on runway 10, which has a length of 2,693 meters.
The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway. The threshold speed of 133 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed during the landing phase. The touchdown distance of 299 meters was also good, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down within a safe distance from the runway threshold.
However, the touchdown speed of 132 knots was slightly faster than the recommended speed, which may have resulted in a slightly higher touchdown rate of -241 feet per minute (fpm). Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -1°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 70°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots. These conditions did not appear to have a significant impact on the landing, as the aircraft was able to maintain a stable approach and touchdown.
The total landing distance of 1,346 meters was 50% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was executed with a high degree of precision and control, and the aircraft was able to touch down safely on the runway. The score of 99.6% reflects the pilot's skill and experience in executing a safe and efficient landing.
