Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 779 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 779 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 227 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 22 at EDMB Biberach an der Riß Airfield. The Cessna 152 aircraft accelerated down the runway, taking off at a speed of 57 kt. The takeoff distance was 17 meters, which is just 2% of the runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 21 °C and a wind speed of 2 kt from a direction of 270 °, resulting in a negligible crosswind and headwind.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airfield, it began to ascend to a higher altitude. The enroute climb started overhead Mittelbiberach, where the aircraft climbed from 2,905 ft asl to 3,345 ft asl in just 1 minute, covering a distance of less than 1 nm. This rapid ascent was followed by a level cruise, which lasted for 11 minutes and covered a distance of 8 nm. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 1 mile north west of Ebersbach-Musbach, where it descended from 3,891 ft asl to 3,041 ft asl in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nm.
The flight continued with a series of enroute climbs and descents, each followed by a level cruise. The aircraft climbed from 3,035 ft asl to 3,969 ft asl in 2 minutes, covering less than 1 nm, and then cruised for 2 minutes, covering 3 nm. It then began its descent, starting 1 mile south of Allmannsweiler, where it descended from 4,066 ft asl to 3,026 ft asl in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 3 nm. The aircraft then cruised for 6 minutes, covering 8 nm, before beginning its final descent.
The final approach to runway 22 at EDMB Biberach an der Riß Airfield was made from the north east, with the aircraft heading 221.0 ° at 0 nm and 209 ft agl. The landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 35 kt and a distance of 222 m. The touchdown rate was perfect at -26 fpm, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.3 m from the centreline.
The total landing distance was 340 m, which is 44% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. The total flight distance was 29 nm, and the flight duration was 31 minutes. The aircraft used 6 kg of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna 152 aircraft successfully landed at EDMB Biberach an der Riß Airfield, achieving a high score of 98.1%. The final approach was conducted from the north east, heading 221.0° at 0 nm and 209 ft above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 22, which has a length of 779 meters.
The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct height as it approached the runway. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target speed of 52 kt, which may have been due to the aircraft's descent rate or the pilot's decision to flare earlier than expected. Despite this, the touchdown distance was good at 222 meters, and the touchdown speed of 35 kt was within the acceptable range.
The touchdown rate of -26 fpm was perfect, indicating that the aircraft touched down smoothly and without any excessive deceleration. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.3 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's heading or a miscalculation of the wind drift.
The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 21°C and a light wind of 2 kt at 270°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 kt, and the headwind component was also 1 kt, which helped to reduce the aircraft's ground speed and make the landing more stable.
The total landing distance was 340 meters, which is 44% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was well-controlled and the pilot made a good decision to flare and touchdown at the correct point. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was stable and under control as it rolled out of the landing.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good skills and judgment in navigating the aircraft to a safe touchdown.
