Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,441 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 2,441 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,142 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 19L at ENGM Oslo Airport, Gardermoen. The takeoff distance was 1,079 meters, which accounted for 37% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 153 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 13 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 210 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 6 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile southeast of ENGM Oslo Airport, Gardermoen. The climb took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 47 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,709 feet above sea level to 25,975 feet above sea level, an increase of 24,266 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 4 miles west of Noresund and lasted for 7 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 47 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 21 miles southwest of Geilo. The descent took 19 minutes and covered a distance of 82 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 26,007 feet above sea level to 2,566 feet above sea level, a decrease of 23,441 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 3 miles northwest of Knarvik and lasted for 3 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 10 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 2 miles north of Askoy. The descent took 2 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 2,341 feet above sea level to 1,342 feet above sea level, a decrease of 998 feet.
The final approach to runway 17 at ENBR Bergen Airport, Flesland was made from the north, with a heading of 169.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,177 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 17, which had a length of 2,441 meters. The threshold height at 73 feet above ground level was well above the target, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 149 knots.
The touchdown point was 726 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 137 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was smooth at -144 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 8 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 140 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 5 knots.
The total landing distance was 2,402 meters, which accounted for 98% of the runway. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 7 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 199 nautical miles, and the flight took 60 minutes. The aircraft used 2,547 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at ENBR Bergen Airport, Flesland, with a score of 75.3%. The final approach was initiated from the north, heading 169.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,177 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft was on a steady course for runway 17, which has a length of 2,441 meters.
Upon reaching the runway, the aircraft's threshold height was found to be above the target, indicating that the aircraft was slightly higher than desired at the point of touchdown. However, the threshold speed was only slightly above the target, at 149 knots, which is a relatively acceptable margin. The touchdown point was located 726 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the intended point of touchdown.
The touchdown speed of 137 knots was slightly faster than the desired speed, which may have contributed to the deviation from the touchdown zone. Nevertheless, the touchdown rate was smooth, with a descent rate of -144 feet per minute, indicating a controlled and stable approach. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, which is a testament to the pilot's skill and attention to detail.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 8°C and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 140°. The crosswind component was minimal, at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots, which provided a favorable wind condition for the landing.
The total landing distance was 2,402 meters, which is equivalent to 98% of the runway length. This indicates that the aircraft was able to stop within a relatively short distance after touchdown, which is a desirable outcome. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain a stable and controlled roll-out after touchdown.
Overall, while the landing was not perfect, with some deviations from the target touchdown point and speed, the pilot's skill and attention to detail were evident in the smooth touchdown rate and perfect runway alignment.
