MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,989 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 252 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 01 at FHSH Saint Helena Airport. The Boeing 737-900 aircraft took off with a takeoff distance of 1,278 meters, which was 84% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 146 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 26 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 9 knots at 95 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 9 knots and a tailwind of 1 knot.
As the aircraft climbed out of Saint Helena Airport, it began its enroute climb, reaching an altitude of 34,621 feet above sea level. This represented an increase of 33,413 feet from the initial altitude of 1,208 feet above sea level. The climb took 26 minutes to complete and covered a distance of 176 nautical miles. The enroute climb started overhead Longwood, Saint Helena.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 141 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 1,559 nautical miles. The cruise phase began at a latitude of -17.0105555 and a longitude of -2.7806413.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent, which started 8 miles southeast of Worcester, Western Cape, South Africa. The descent took 6 minutes to complete and covered a distance of 127 nautical miles. The aircraft descended from an altitude of 35,104 feet above sea level to 2,942 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,162 feet.
After the descent, the aircraft entered another level cruise phase, which lasted for 2 minutes. During this brief period, the aircraft covered a distance of 9 nautical miles. This cruise phase began 7 miles northeast of FAMO Mossel Bay Airport, Mossel Bay, Western Cape, South Africa.
The final approach to runway 11 at FAGG George Airport was made from the west, with a heading of 88.0 degrees. The aircraft was at an altitude of 1,234 feet above ground level and 4 nautical miles from the runway threshold.
The landing on runway 11 at FAGG George Airport was successful, with a touchdown distance of 252 meters, which was 38% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 126 knots, and the touchdown rate was -173 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots at 100 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 2 knots.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking 1 minute to cover a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,876 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 182 minutes. The aircraft used 13,755 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-900 aircraft successfully landed at FAGG George Airport, achieving a score of 99.7%. The final approach to runway 11 was conducted from the west, with a heading of 88.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,234 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a good threshold height, indicating a precise and controlled descent. The threshold speed of 131 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed during the landing phase. The touchdown distance of 252 meters was also satisfactory, indicating a smooth and controlled touchdown.
The touchdown speed of 126 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -173 feet per minute (fpm) was also good, indicating a controlled and stable descent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to align the aircraft with the runway centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 100°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 2 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the landing phase. The total landing distance of 759 meters was 38% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance.
The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft came to a stop in a controlled and stable manner.
