Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,138 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 524 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Eindhoven Airport, taking approximately 9 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 21, with the aircraft lifting off at a speed of 157 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 14°C, with a wind speed of 14 knots coming from a direction of 200°.
As the aircraft climbed away from Eindhoven Airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport and took the aircraft up to an altitude of 32,567 feet. This climb phase covered a distance of 74 nautical miles and took 16 minutes to complete, with the aircraft increasing its altitude by 31,462 feet. The enroute level cruise phase that followed lasted for 19 minutes and covered a distance of 144 nautical miles, with the aircraft flying at a steady altitude.
The enroute descent phase began 1 mile northwest of Neuhausen, Germany, and took the aircraft down from an altitude of 33,023 feet to 6,989 feet, a decrease of 26,034 feet in just 10 minutes. The aircraft then entered another enroute level cruise phase, this time lasting only 2 minutes and covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. The final enroute descent phase began overhead Busingen, Germany, and took the aircraft down from 6,723 feet to 3,982 feet, a decrease of 2,740 feet in just 3 minutes.
The aircraft then entered another enroute level cruise phase, this time lasting 2 minutes and covering a distance of 4 nautical miles. The final enroute descent phase began 1 mile south of ED33 Bohlhof Airfield, Germany, and took the aircraft down from 3,987 feet to 2,693 feet, a decrease of 1,294 feet in just 3 minutes.
The final approach to runway 14 at Zürich Airport was made from the northwest, with the aircraft heading 137.0° at an altitude of 1,282 feet above ground level. The landing took place on a runway with a length of 3,138 meters, and the threshold height was above the target height. The threshold speed was good, and the touchdown speed was also within the acceptable range.
The touchdown point was 101 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 124 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was firm at -355 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.2 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 12°C, with a wind speed of 4 knots coming from a direction of 160°.
The total landing distance was 1,146 meters, which was 37% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway in just 5 minutes, covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 311 nautical miles, and the flight took 66 minutes to complete, using a total of 2,806 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 14 at Zürich Airport (LSZH) with a score of 91.5%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north-west, heading 137.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,282 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with a good threshold speed of 132 knots, which is within the acceptable range for a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 101 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly off-center. However, the touchdown speed of 124 knots was within the acceptable range, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown rate of -355 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting a controlled and stable landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 12°C and a gentle wind of 4 knots at 160°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 4 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,146 meters was 37% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft maintained its alignment with the runway centerline during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down safely and maintaining control throughout the rollout phase. However, the slight misalignment of the touchdown point and the firm touchdown rate suggest that the pilots may have been slightly more aggressive in their approach, which could be an area for improvement in future landings.
