Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,602 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,602 m of the 2,447 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 716 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Falcone–Borsellino Airport in Palermo, Sicily, Italy. This process took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 07, with a takeoff distance of 1,693 meters, which accounted for 56% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 155 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 24 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 3 knots at 310 degrees. The crosswind was 2 knots, and the tailwind was 1 knot. After departing from the airport, the aircraft began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile east of the airport and rising from an altitude of 1,038 feet above sea level to 33,986 feet above sea level. This climb covered a distance of 96 nautical miles and took 18 minutes.
The enroute climb was followed by a level cruise, which started 72 miles northwest of Ustica, Sicily, and lasted for 39 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 277 nautical miles. The enroute descent began 1 mile south of Montignoso, Tuscany, and lasted for 19 minutes, covering a distance of 90 nautical miles. The aircraft descended from an altitude of 34,051 feet above sea level to 1,631 feet above sea level.
As the aircraft approached Milano Linate Airport, it began its final approach to runway 36 from the south, heading 356.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,274 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 36, which had a length of 2,447 meters. The threshold height was above the target, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 140 knots.
The touchdown point was 289 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 132 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was firm at -316 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 18.4 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots at 0 degrees. The crosswind was 0 knots, and the headwind was 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,511 meters, which accounted for 62% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 18.0 meters from the centerline. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, taking 3 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 472 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 90 minutes. The aircraft used 3,464 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed at LIML Milano Linate Airport, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the south, heading 356.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,274 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 36, which has a length of 2,447 meters.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was slightly above the target at 140 knots, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 132 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -316 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a relatively steep descent. However, the threshold height at 64 feet agl was above the target, suggesting that the aircraft may have been slightly high on its approach.
The touchdown point was 289 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the ideal landing spot. Furthermore, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 18.4 meters from the centerline, indicating that the aircraft did not land directly on the center of the runway. This misalignment was also observed during the runway rollout, where the aircraft was 18.0 meters off-centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 20°C and a wind speed of 2 knots at 0°. There was no crosswind or headwind, which made the landing conditions relatively straightforward. Despite some deviations from the ideal landing parameters, the aircraft was able to come to a stop within 62% of the runway length, covering a total distance of 1,511 meters.
Overall, while the landing was not perfect, the Airbus A320 was able to safely touch down and come to a stop on the runway. However, the deviations from the ideal landing parameters suggest that the pilots may need to work on refining their approach and landing techniques to achieve a more precise and controlled landing.
