Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,484 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,484 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 298 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Pesim FPV Drone Racer taxiing from the parking area to the runway at RJNY JASDF Shizuhama Air Base. This process took 4 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. Once at the runway, the drone took off from runway 27, covering a takeoff distance of 450 meters, which was 30% of the runway's length. The liftoff speed was 78 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 16 °C, with a wind speed of 6 knots blowing from 207 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 3 knots. The drone began its enroute climb 1 mile west of the air base, rising from an altitude of 701 feet above sea level to 1,256 feet, an increase of 555 feet, in just 2 minutes while covering a distance of 2 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the drone entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 9 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The final approach to runway 27 was made from the east, with the drone heading 265.0 degrees at an altitude of 316 feet above ground level and a distance of 0 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing on runway 27 was successful, with the drone touching down at a speed of 68 knots and a touchdown distance of 296 meters. The touchdown speed was slightly above the target speed of 81 knots, but the touchdown rate was excellent at -60 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 15 °C, with a wind speed of 5 knots blowing from 208 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 872 meters, which was 59% of the runway's length. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 11.6 meters from the centerline. The drone then taxied to the parking area from the runway, taking 1 minute and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 6 nautical miles, and the flight lasted for 17 minutes, using 4 kilograms of fuel.
The Pesim FPV Drone Racer successfully landed on runway 27 at RJNY JASDF Shizuhama Air Base, achieving a score of 92.3%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 265.0° at an altitude of 316 feet above ground level (agl) and a distance of 0 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing was executed with good threshold height, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct height as it touched down on the runway. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 81 knots, which may have been due to the aircraft's momentum or the pilot's decision to maintain a higher speed for a smoother landing.
The touchdown distance of 296 meters was good, and the touchdown speed of 68 knots was also within acceptable limits. The most impressive aspect of the landing was the touchdown rate, which was an excellent -60 feet per minute (fpm). This indicates that the aircraft touched down smoothly and quickly, with minimal impact on the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 5 knots from 208°. The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots. These conditions would have required the pilot to make adjustments to the aircraft's approach and landing to compensate for the wind.
The total landing distance of 872 meters was 59% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft landed safely and within the designated area. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 11.6 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the pilot's decision to maintain a higher speed or the aircraft's momentum.
Overall, the Pesim FPV Drone Racer's landing on runway 27 at RJNY JASDF Shizuhama Air Base was a success, with a score of 92.3%. The aircraft's smooth touchdown, good touchdown distance, and excellent touchdown rate all contributed to a safe and successful landing.
