Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,360 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 372 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, then departed from runway 01R at ENGM Oslo Airport, Gardermoen. The takeoff distance was 1,115 meters, which accounted for 38% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 158 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 11 knots from a direction of 299 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 11 knots and a headwind of 3 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south east of Gardermoen, and climbed from an altitude of 1,711 feet above sea level to 30,345 feet above sea level, an increase of 28,634 feet, in 16 minutes and covering a distance of 101 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 7 miles north west of ENEE Sølenstua Airfield Engerdal and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 13 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 20 miles south east of Tolga, and descended from 30,314 feet above sea level to 1,512 feet above sea level, a decrease of 28,802 feet, in 20 minutes and covering a distance of 79 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 27 at ENVA Trondheim Airport, Værnes, was made from the east, heading 270.0 degrees, at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,465 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 27, which had a length of 2,360 meters. The threshold height was well above the target, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 135 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 372 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 125 knots. The touchdown rate was heavy at -645 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 12 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 19 knots from a direction of 290 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 17 knots.
The total landing distance was 927 meters, which accounted for 39% of the runway. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 202 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 52 minutes. The aircraft used 2,247 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at Trondheim Airport, Værnes, with a score of 88.4%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 270.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,465 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 27, which has a length of 2,360 meters.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down at a speed of 125 knots, which was slightly above the target speed. The touchdown distance of 372 meters was considered good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the touchdown rate of -645 feet per minute (fpm) was heavy, suggesting that the aircraft may have touched down with a bit too much force.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 12°C and a wind speed of 19 knots from a direction of 290°. This resulted in a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 17 knots, which may have affected the aircraft's approach and landing. Despite these conditions, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained a stable and controlled approach.
The total landing distance of 927 meters was 39% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This suggests that the pilot was able to bring the aircraft to a stop quickly and efficiently. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, while there were some minor issues with the touchdown speed and rate, the Airbus A320 landed safely and efficiently at Trondheim Airport, Værnes, with a score of 88.4%.
