Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 6,338 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 6,338 ft of the 8,690 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,991 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Miami International Airport, the Airbus A321 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 7 minutes and covered 2 nautical miles. As it reached the threshold of runway 08R, the aircraft initiated its departure roll, accelerating down the 6,648-foot runway, which represented 63% of its total length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 174 knots, taking advantage of the 10-knot headwind that was blowing from a direction of 86 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile southwest of Brownsville, Florida. Over the course of 25 minutes, the aircraft ascended from an initial altitude of 973 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 36,009 feet, a vertical gain of 35,036 feet. This climb phase covered a distance of 161 nautical miles. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which lasted for 44 minutes and covered 314 nautical miles. The cruise phase took place 3 miles southeast of Saint Cloud, Florida. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 1 mile southwest of Augusta Regional Airport in Georgia. Over the course of 26 minutes, the aircraft descended from 35,599 feet to 1,976 feet, a vertical loss of 33,623 feet. This descent phase covered a distance of 130 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached Charlotte Douglas International Airport, it initiated its final approach to runway 36R, which was located to the south. The aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 141 knots, which was slightly above the target speed. The touchdown point was 628 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the aircraft's touchdown rate was smooth at -106 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was perfect. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 613 nautical miles, and the aircraft used 10,858 pounds of fuel over the course of the flight, which lasted 106 minutes.
The aircraft touched down on runway 36R at KCLT Charlotte Douglas International Airport, a 8,690 ft long runway, after a final approach from the south. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a slight deviation in threshold height, being 57 ft agl, which was above the target. The threshold speed of 150 kt was also slightly above the target, but still within acceptable limits. The aircraft maintained a heading of 356.0° at 4 nm and 1,233 ft agl during the approach.
The touchdown characteristics were generally good, with a touchdown speed of 141 kt, which was a little fast, but the touchdown rate of -106 fpm was smooth. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating a high degree of control and precision during the landing. The touchdown point was 628 ft beyond the touchdown zone, which was slightly beyond the ideal point. Local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 48 °F and a wind of 4 kt at 80°, resulting in a negligible crosswind component.
The aircraft's performance during the rollout phase was excellent, with perfect alignment on the runway centerline. The total landing distance of 6,075 ft was 70% of the runway length, indicating a good balance between speed and control. Overall, the landing was scored 96.6%, reflecting a high degree of proficiency and control during the approach, touchdown, and rollout phases.
