Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 10,014 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,213 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Honda HA420 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at KHRO Boone County Airport, taking approximately 2 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 18, with a takeoff distance of 3,199 feet, which accounted for 52% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 143 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 63°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 270°. The crosswind component was 1 knot, while the headwind component was 0 knots. As the aircraft took to the skies, it began its enroute climb, which started 2 miles west of Harrison, Arkansas. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 2,477 feet above sea level to 12,509 feet above sea level, an increase of 10,032 feet, in just 5 minutes and covering a distance of 16 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which began 4 miles east of the Elkins Airport in Arkansas. This phase of the flight lasted for 16 minutes and covered a distance of 85 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent, which began 2 miles northeast of the Longs Airport in Oklahoma. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 12,505 feet above sea level to 1,903 feet above sea level, a decrease of 10,602 feet, in 9 minutes and covering a distance of 29 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its final approach to runway 18L at KTUL Tulsa International Airport, coming in from the north at a heading of 183.0° and at an altitude of 1,261 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on the runway, which had a length of 10,014 feet. The threshold height at 55 feet above ground level was slightly above the target, while the threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 111 knots.
The touchdown point was 899 feet beyond the touchdown zone, but the touchdown speed of 94 knots was good, and the touchdown rate of -80 feet per minute was excellent. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 29 feet from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 61°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 270°, with a crosswind component of 1 knot and a headwind component of 0 knots.
The total landing distance was 3,712 feet, which accounted for 37% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 28 feet from the centerline. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 2 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 139 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 37 minutes, with no fuel being used during the flight.
The Honda HA420 aircraft successfully landed at KTUL Tulsa International Airport, achieving a score of 93.1%. The final approach to runway 18L was initiated from the north, with a heading of 183.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,261 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 899 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly off-target. However, the touchdown speed of 94 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -80 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 61°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind component and no headwind, making the landing conditions relatively straightforward.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 29 feet from the centreline, which may have contributed to the slightly off-target touchdown point. Additionally, the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 28 feet from the centreline, indicating a slight deviation from the desired path.
Despite these minor deviations, the total landing distance of 3,712 feet was only 37% of the available runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This suggests that the aircraft was able to land smoothly and efficiently, with a good balance between speed and control. Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft's performance was satisfactory, with a score of 93.1%.
