MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,640 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,640 m of the 2,253 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 546 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The Airbus A320 then departed from runway 21 at Nantes Atlantique Airport (LFRS), with a takeoff distance of 1,527 meters, which accounted for 57% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 153 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 12 knots blowing at an angle of 140 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 11 knots and a headwind of 4 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile west of Pont-Saint-Martin in the Pays de la Loire region of France. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,141 feet above sea level to 34,940 feet, an increase of 33,799 feet, in 20 minutes and covering a distance of 122 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile northwest of Massignac in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. This phase lasted for 94 minutes and covered a distance of 742 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 20 miles north of Cefalu in Sicily, Italy. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 34,073 feet to 11,216 feet, a decrease of 22,858 feet, in 10 minutes and covering a distance of 52 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile southwest of Regalbuto in Sicily, Italy. This phase lasted for only 2 minutes and covered a distance of 6 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting overhead Centuripe in Sicily, Italy. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 11,166 feet to 1,327 feet, a decrease of 9,839 feet, in 12 minutes and covering a distance of 14 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 08 at Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (LICC) was made from the west, with the aircraft heading at 84.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,286 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 08, which had a length of 2,253 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 145 knots.
The touchdown point was 128 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 136 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -206 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 23 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 9 knots blowing at an angle of 70 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 9 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,557 meters, which accounted for 69% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, a process that took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 945 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 151 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 5,990 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, achieving a score of 97.8%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 84.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,286 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 08, which has a length of 2,253 meters.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down slightly beyond the touchdown zone, 128 meters past the designated area. The touchdown speed of 136 knots was slightly above the target speed, indicating that the pilots may have been able to make adjustments to reduce the speed during the approach. The touchdown rate of -206 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft's descent was not excessively steep.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 23°C and a wind speed of 9 knots from a direction of 70°. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 9 knots, which the pilots effectively managed during the landing. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,557 meters was 69% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the pilots maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and brought it to a stop safely. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilots demonstrated good skills and judgment in managing the aircraft during the approach and landing phases.
