Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,607 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,607 m of the 3,329 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 850 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing Dublin Airport, the Airbus A320 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. As it reached the threshold of runway 28R, the aircraft accelerated down the 1,469-meter takeoff distance, which comprised 47% of the runway. At a liftoff speed of 157 knots, the aircraft lifted off into the local weather conditions, characterized by a temperature of 18°C and a gentle headwind of 2 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from Dublin, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile northwest of the airport and continued for 19 minutes, covering a distance of 120 nautical miles. The aircraft ascended from 1,300 feet above sea level to 33,009 feet, an increase of 31,709 feet. Following this climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted 18 minutes and covered 226 nautical miles, starting 4 miles west of Henllan in Wales. The aircraft then began its descent, which started 2 miles northeast of Dover in England, and continued for 10 minutes, covering 74 nautical miles, as it descended from 32,992 feet to 15,338 feet. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which lasted 5 minutes and covered 30 nautical miles, starting 1 mile north of Pittem in Belgium. The final descent phase began 1 mile east of Haaltert in Belgium, and the aircraft descended from 15,007 feet to 2,007 feet in 11 minutes, covering 49 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached Brussels Airport, it entered a final level cruise phase, which lasted 5 minutes and covered 15 nautical miles, starting overhead Testelt in Belgium. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 25R, aligning itself with the runway from the northeast. The landing was executed with good threshold height, threshold speed, and touchdown speed, with the aircraft touching down 438 meters beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 126 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -327 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 7 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 523 nautical miles, and the aircraft used 3,853 kilograms of fuel during the 87-minute flight.
The aircraft touched down on runway 25R at EBBR Brussels Airport with a satisfactory approach quality, demonstrating a good understanding of the aircraft's performance and the prevailing weather conditions. The final approach was initiated from the north east, heading 245.0° at 4 nm and 1,355 ft above ground level, with the aircraft aligning perfectly with the runway centerline. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed of 136 kt was achieved, indicating a well-executed approach.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was 126 kt, which was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -327 fpm was firm but not excessive. The touchdown point was 438 m beyond the touchdown zone, which, although not ideal, was still within the acceptable limits. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, with the aircraft maintaining its centerline alignment throughout the rollout phase. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 15 °C and a light headwind of 2 kt, contributed to a smooth and stable approach.
The total landing distance of 1,530 m, which accounted for 50% of the runway length, was within the acceptable range. The runway rollout alignment was very good, with the aircraft maintaining its centerline alignment throughout the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was satisfactory, with a score of 90.2%. The pilot's performance demonstrated a good understanding of the aircraft's performance and the prevailing weather conditions, resulting in a safe and efficient landing.
