Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,856 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,856 m of the 2,977 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 666 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A321 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EDDW Bremen Airport, a process that took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 09, with a takeoff distance of 1,369 meters, which was 67% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 151 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 3 knots at 131 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile east of EDDW Bremen Airport. The climb took 24 minutes to reach a height of 38,067 feet above sea level, an increase of 37,012 feet from the initial altitude of 1,054 feet. During this phase, the aircraft covered a distance of 157 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 2 miles east of Hadamar, Germany. This phase lasted for 25 minutes and covered a distance of 194 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 1 mile northwest of Baar, Switzerland. The descent took 23 minutes to reach a height of 1,980 feet above sea level, a decrease of 36,156 feet from the initial altitude of 38,136 feet. During this phase, the aircraft covered a distance of 100 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 35R at LIMC Milan Malpensa International Airport was made from the south, with a heading of 349.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,246 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 35R, which had a length of 2,977 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was well above the target speed of 154 knots.
The touchdown point was 249 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 141 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was smooth at -143 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.0 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 16 knots at 12 degrees.
The total landing distance was 1,774 meters, which was 60% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.6 meters from the centerline. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 460 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 86 minutes. The aircraft used 4,134 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at Milan Malpensa International Airport (LIMC) on runway 35R, achieving a score of 93.4%. The final approach was initiated from the south, heading 349.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,246 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway, with the threshold height being well within the acceptable range. However, the threshold speed was above the target speed, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly too fast during the approach. The touchdown point was located 249 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may have been due to the aircraft's speed being a little too high at 141 knots.
The touchdown rate was smooth, with a descent rate of -143 feet per minute (fpm). However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 6.0 meters, which may have been due to the aircraft's alignment during the approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 21°C and a wind speed of 16 knots from a direction of 12°. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the headwind component was 14 knots. These conditions may have contributed to the slight misalignment of the aircraft during the approach and landing.
The total landing distance was 1,774 meters, which is 60% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centerline by 8.6 meters. Overall, while the landing was successful, there were some minor issues with the aircraft's alignment and speed during the approach and landing.
