Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,826 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,826 m of the 3,138 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 586 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A319 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport, taking approximately 8 minutes and covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 05, with a takeoff distance of 1,226 meters, which accounted for 44% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 161 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time were a temperature of 3°C, with a wind speed of 6 knots at 119 degrees.
As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, starting overhead Fuhlsbuettel, a location within the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Germany. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,085 feet above sea level to 34,672 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,586 feet, in just 16 minutes and covering a distance of 79 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, starting overhead Bad Nenndorf, a location in the state of Lower Saxony, Germany. This phase of the flight lasted for 56 minutes and covered a distance of 228 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile south of Rohrdorf, a location in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 34,353 feet above sea level to 2,689 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,664 feet, in 20 minutes and covering a distance of 62 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 14 at Zürich Airport took place from the north-west, with the aircraft heading at 137.0 degrees and 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on runway 14, which had a length of 3,138 meters. The local weather conditions at the time were a temperature of 5°C, with a wind speed of 5 knots at 150 degrees.
The touchdown point was 170 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 125 knots, which was considered good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -254 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.1 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance was 1,746 meters, which accounted for 56% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 4 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 380 nautical miles, taking a total of 78 minutes, and the aircraft used 3,049 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 successfully landed at Zürich Airport (LSZH) on runway 14, achieving a high score of 98.2%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north-west, heading 137.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,277 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot maintained a good threshold height, which is a crucial aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was recorded at 132 knots, which is within the acceptable range. The touchdown point was located 170 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the ideal landing spot. However, the touchdown speed of 125 knots was considered good, suggesting that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the descent.
The touchdown rate of -254 feet per minute (fpm) was deemed fair, which may indicate a slightly steeper descent than desired. Nevertheless, the pilot managed to bring the aircraft to a safe stop without any issues. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.1 meters from the centerline, but this did not seem to affect the overall performance of the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 5°C and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 150°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 5 knots, which likely contributed to the aircraft's stable approach and landing.
The total landing distance of 1,746 meters was 56% of the available runway length, indicating that the pilot had sufficient space to bring the aircraft to a stop. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control of the aircraft during the critical phase of the landing.
Overall, the Airbus A319's landing at Zürich Airport was a successful one, with the pilot demonstrating good control and decision-making skills throughout the approach and landing phases.
