Improve the pattern base leg
See Pattern Base Leg
Bank angle in the pattern is conventionally kept to 20 to 30 degrees, and the base-to-final turn is where that convention earns its keep. Stall speed rises with bank because the wing must produce more lift in a turn. Roughly 7 per cent higher at 30 degrees, about 19 per cent at 45, and around 40 per cent at 60. At 65 kt on base you don't have much margin to spend steepening a turn to salvage an overshoot.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: seven checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
At the 300 ft gate: off the centreline.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,667 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 70 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 32 at EGNM Leeds Bradford Airport. The aircraft, a Cessna C172, accelerated down the runway and lifted off at a speed of 74 kt, requiring a takeoff distance of just 83 m, which is 5% of the runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 15 °C and a gentle wind of 1 kt blowing from 269 °, resulting in a negligible crosswind and headwind component.
As the aircraft entered the traffic pattern, it followed a left-hand pattern entry from runway 32, completing the maneuver in less than 1 nm in 21 seconds. The subsequent left-hand pattern crosswind was also executed in under 1 nm in 23 seconds. The pilot then initiated a pattern downwind turn, which covered a distance of 1 nm and involved a turn of 87.4 ° to align with the runway. The downwind leg itself was 2 nm long and took 63 seconds to complete.
Following the downwind leg, the pilot executed a base leg turn, which covered a distance of 2 nm and involved a turn of 21.4 ° to align with the runway. The base leg itself was less than 1 nm long and took 25 seconds to complete. The final turn, which brought the aircraft onto the final approach, was also less than 1 nm in length and took 12 seconds to complete.
The final approach to runway 32 was made from the south east, with the aircraft flying at a heading of 287.0 ° and an altitude of 302 ft above ground level (agl) at a distance of 1 nm from the runway threshold. The landing was executed at a threshold speed that was slightly below the target speed of 50 kt, resulting in a touchdown distance of 69 m, which is well within the acceptable range. The touchdown speed of 48 kt was also good, and the touchdown rate of -72 fpm was excellent.
The total landing distance was 344 m, which is just 21% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot had maintained control of the aircraft throughout the landing process. The total flight distance was 6 nm, and the flight used 6 kg of fuel. Overall, the flight was executed smoothly and efficiently, with the pilot demonstrating good control and decision-making skills throughout the flight.
The Cessna C172 aircraft successfully landed at EGNM Leeds Bradford Airport, achieving a score of 95.2%. The final approach was conducted from the south east, heading 287.0° at 1 nm and 302 ft above ground level (agl). The aircraft demonstrated good control and precision during the approach, ultimately landing on runway 32.
The runway length at EGNM Leeds Bradford Airport is 1,667 meters, providing a safe margin for the aircraft's landing. The threshold height was reported as good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct height as it approached the runway. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target speed of 50 kt, which may be a minor area for improvement.
The touchdown distance of 69 meters was considered good, and the touchdown speed of 48 kt was also within acceptable limits. The most impressive aspect of the landing was the touchdown rate, which was an excellent -72 fpm. This indicates that the aircraft touched down smoothly and with minimal impact, reducing the risk of damage to the aircraft and the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 kt from 269°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind and headwind, making the landing even more challenging and impressive. The total landing distance of 344 meters was only 21% of the runway length, demonstrating the aircraft's excellent braking performance and control.
The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft maintained its alignment with the runway after touchdown and during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was a success, with the aircraft demonstrating excellent control, precision, and braking performance.
