Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,522 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,522 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 512 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The aircraft taxied from the parking area to runway 22 at KUIL Quillayute Airport in 13 minutes, covering approximately 1 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 22, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 71 kt and became airborne after traveling 448 m, which represented 35 % of the runway length. Ambient conditions were 16 °C with a wind of 7 kt from 170°, a cross-wind component of 7 kt and a head-wind component of 3 kt.
The climb began overhead KUIL, rising from 573 ft asl to 1,086 ft asl, an increase of 513 ft achieved in less than one minute while covering less than 1 nm.
Level cruise commenced still over KUIL and continued for 32 minutes, during which the aircraft covered 63 nm.
Descent started one mile north of KHQM Bowerman Airport, descending from 1,694 ft asl to 594 ft asl, a loss of 1,099 ft in 4 minutes while traversing 7 nm.
The final approach to runway 24 at KHQM Bowerman Airport was flown from the east on a heading of 259.0° at 1 nm and 574 ft agl, followed by a further descent from 650 ft agl to 42 ft agl in 86 seconds, during which the aircraft met the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 24 was executed with a threshold speed of 74 kt, slightly above the target. Touchdown occurred 81 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 66 kt, with a vertical speed of minus 42 fpm and perfect runway alignment. Local weather at the time was 16 °C with a wind of 11 kt from 240°, a cross-wind component of 4 kt and a head-wind component of 11 kt.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 709 m, representing 47 % of the runway, and alignment during the rollout was very good.
After exiting the runway, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 4 minutes, traveling less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 76 nm, lasted 47 minutes, and consumed 14 kg of fuel.
The final approach to runway 24 at KHQM Bowerman Airport was flown from the east on a heading of 259.0° at 1 nm and 574 ft agl. The aircraft descended from 650 ft agl to 42 ft agl in 86 seconds and was scored on the stabilisation gates.
At threshold the height was good and the threshold speed was slightly above target at 74 kt.
Touchdown occurred 81 m beyond the touchdown zone with a speed of 66 kt, which was fast, while the vertical rate was perfect at minus 42 fpm and runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 709 m, representing 47 % of the 1,522 m runway, and rollout alignment was very good.
Reduce the approach speed to meet the target speed and aim to touch down within the designated touchdown zone to bring the landing distance further inside the runway limits.
