Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,312 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 371 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, an Airbus A319, then departed from runway 05 at LIRQ Florence Airport, Peretola. The takeoff distance was 874 meters, which was 100% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 140 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 15°C, with a wind speed of 8 knots at a direction of 35°. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 8 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile south east of Sesto Fiorentino, Italy, and climbed from an altitude of 1,183 feet above sea level to 17,330 feet above sea level, an increase of 16,146 feet, in 7 minutes and covering 6 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 3 miles north of Calenzano, Italy, and lasted for 55 minutes, covering a distance of 230 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 1 mile south east of Schliersee, Germany, and descended from 17,974 feet above sea level to 1,904 feet above sea level, a decrease of 16,070 feet, in 14 minutes and covering 46 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 33 at LOWS Salzburg Airport was made from the south east, heading 337.0°, at 1 nautical mile and 481 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 33, which had a length of 2,312 meters. The threshold height at 68 feet above ground level was above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 125 knots. The touchdown distance was also good at 373 meters, but the touchdown speed at 121 knots was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was heavy at -673 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.0 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 3°C, with a wind speed of 2 knots at a direction of 111°. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a tailwind of 1 knot. The total landing distance was 1,391 meters, which was 60% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 287 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 63 minutes. The aircraft used 3,255 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at LOWS Salzburg Airport, with a score of 89.9%. The final approach to runway 33 was initiated from the south east, heading 337.0° at 1 nautical mile and 481 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was executed with a good threshold speed of 125 knots, which is within the acceptable range for a safe landing.
However, there were a few areas where the landing could be improved. The threshold height at 68 ft agl was above the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly high on its approach. Additionally, the touchdown speed of 121 kt was a little fast, which could have contributed to the heavy touchdown rate of -673 feet per minute (fpm). A heavier touchdown rate can put additional stress on the aircraft's landing gear and may affect the overall safety of the landing.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.0 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's approach path. Despite this, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 3°C and a wind speed of 2 kt at 111°. The crosswind and tailwind components were both minimal, at 1 kt each, which suggests that the landing was not significantly affected by wind factors.
Overall, while there were some areas for improvement, the Airbus A319 aircraft was able to land safely at LOWS Salzburg Airport, with a total landing distance of 1,391 meters, which is 60% of the runway length.
