Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,731 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 247 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from L.F. Wade International Airport, TXKF, the Airbus A319 began its journey with a taxiing period of 5 minutes, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. As it rolled down runway 12, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 155 knots, achieving a takeoff distance of 1,361 meters, which accounted for 46% of the runway's length. The local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 25°C, with a wind speed of 9 knots at 162°, resulting in a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 5 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it traversed a distance of 102 nautical miles, increasing its altitude from 969 feet to 35,446 feet in 17 minutes. The enroute climb phase was followed by a level cruise, which lasted for 84 minutes and covered a distance of 554 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, reducing its altitude from 36,029 feet to 4,744 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 120 nautical miles. The descent phase was punctuated by several level cruise segments, including a brief period of 2 minutes at 4,309 feet, followed by a descent to 3,305 feet in 2 minutes, and a final level cruise segment of 3 minutes at 4,309 feet.
The Airbus A319 finally began its final approach to runway 31R at John F. Kennedy International Airport, KJFK, from the south-east, heading 301.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,347 feet above ground level. The landing was executed with a threshold speed of 129 knots and a touchdown distance of 245 meters, which accounted for 41% of the runway's length. However, the touchdown speed of 126 knots was slightly above the optimal value, and the touchdown rate was firm at -314 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 27.5 meters from the centreline, and the runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 25.3 meters from the centreline. The total landing distance was 997 meters, and the aircraft used 4,937 kilograms of fuel for the entire flight, which covered a distance of 805 nautical miles and lasted for 137 minutes.
The aircraft touched down on runway 31R at KJFK John F Kennedy International Airport with a threshold height that met the desired standards. The threshold speed of 129 kt was also satisfactory, indicating a well-executed approach. However, the touchdown speed of 126 kt was slightly above the optimal range, resulting in a firm touchdown rate of -314 fpm.
The aircraft's touchdown distance of 245 m was within acceptable limits, but the significant misalignment of 27.5 m from the centreline at touchdown and the subsequent runway rollout alignment of 25.3 m from centreline compromised the overall quality of the landing. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 12 °C and a crosswind of 8 kt, headwind of 22 kt, and wind direction of 320 °, may have contributed to the misalignment issues.
The total landing distance of 997 m, accounting for 41% of the runway length, was within the acceptable range. Despite the misalignment issues, the aircraft's overall performance earned a score of 84.8%. The approach quality, while not perfect, demonstrated a good understanding of the aircraft's handling characteristics and the ability to execute a safe and controlled landing.
