Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,681 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,681 m of the 2,182 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 549 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A319, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (KMSP). This process took 3 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 30L, and the takeoff distance was 1,598 meters, which accounted for 53% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 163 knots.
As the aircraft climbed into the air, it encountered local weather conditions of 27°C temperature and a wind speed of 23 knots at 310°. The crosswind was 3 knots, and the headwind was 22 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile north of Richfield, Minnesota, and the aircraft ascended from 1,919 feet above sea level to 36,377 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,458 feet, in 19 minutes and covering 116 nautical miles.
After reaching cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 3 miles southwest of Estherville, Iowa. This phase lasted for 166 minutes and covered a distance of 1,201 nautical miles. The enroute descent began overhead Bacchi Valley Industries Airport Lotus in California, and the aircraft descended from 37,055 feet above sea level to 1,924 feet above sea level, a decrease of 35,131 feet, in 23 minutes and covering 102 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 30L at Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (KSJC) was made from the southeast, heading 318.0°, at 4 nautical miles and 1,871 feet above ground level. The landing took place on runway 30L, which had a length of 2,182 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 138 knots.
The touchdown point was 128 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 122 knots, which was considered good. However, the touchdown rate was hard at -464 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.5 meters from the centerline. Local weather conditions at the time of landing were 31°C temperature and a wind speed of 5 knots at 329°, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 5 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,596 meters, which accounted for 73% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 11.8 meters from the centerline. After landing, the aircraft taxiied to the parking area, which took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,429 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 214 minutes. The aircraft used 7,859 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at KSJC Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport, with a score of 87.1%. The final approach to runway 30L was initiated from the south east, heading 318.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,871 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, which has a length of 2,182 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 138 kt. The touchdown point was 128 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating that the aircraft landed slightly further down the runway than intended. The touchdown speed of 122 kt was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -464 fpm was considered hard, suggesting that the aircraft may have experienced a slightly rough landing.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.5 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the slightly rough landing. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 31°C and a wind speed of 5 kt from 329°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 kt, while the headwind component was 5 kt, which may have helped to stabilize the aircraft during the landing.
The total landing distance was 1,596 meters, which is 73% of the runway length. This suggests that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance after touchdown. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 11.8 meters from the centerline, indicating that the aircraft may have experienced some difficulty in maintaining a straight course during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the landing was not perfect, the Airbus A319 aircraft was able to safely touch down on the runway and come to a stop within a reasonable distance. The score of 87.1% suggests that there is room for improvement in terms of precision and control during the landing phase.
